If you remove the brake fluid from a master cylinder on a car, and unhook the lines and cap of the ports, does the master still need to be re-bench bled? Or, does that only reply to new or rebuilt masters?

If you already have it off it will take only a minute to bench bleed it or if you are using a power bleeder when you re-install it I wouldn't worry about it.

Just remember to start with very short strokes (like 1/2 - 3/4 inch) when bench bleeding. Otherwise you push the rubber seals across the holes in the cylinder wall while they're dry and they can catch and tear. Guess how I know!
