Its been at least 10 years since I took off a set of Coil springs on a car.....I have the Coil spring compressor any tips for me? The whole front clip is apart engine/trans pulled and everythings off but the suspension so everything is easily accessible. I plan on buying a chain and strapping in the spring so it cant shoot out and take me out :D Once this is done I can start sand blasting all my parts, primer and paint and start getting the suspension back together to drop in the new engine/trans :hurray:
I start out by removing the shock, and loosening the castle nuts on the ball joints.
You can get lucky and they can "pop" with just spring pressure. Or a couple whacks with a fork/BFH.
The last 2 I did (64 & 70 Chevelle), I was able to raise the frame high enough on a jack stand, to use a jack under the lower arm as I slowly lowered it to allow the spring to come out without a spring compressor. I did run a chain up thru the spring just in case.
You can do the same thing if you can the remove the lower arm bolts, but I did not like banging on them with the lower arm supported with a jack.
Getting it back in without front end weight will probably need a spring compressor.
You can put the springs in without a spring comp. by running a heavy duty strap around the frame and under the jack I had to do mine that way worked great im to cheap to buy one
