First project. Going to be redoing the front suspension and want to change out the drums for discs. 15 inch wheels. Can I go with the 12" brakes, or do I need to get the 11".

I just replaced the front suspension and went from drums to disc on my 67 Malibu, had no problems using 12inch disc's on 15 inch rim's.

thanks.... Did you go the route of buying a kit, or finding the parts from other cars.

With 15 inch wheels, you can fit the 12-inch discs...

There are several routes to go... Do you want to buy a kit, or assemble your own setup?

I have seen someone (Master Power Brakes?) advertise in the magazines, 12" disc setups for stock spindles (I think the kits even include the spindles), or you could do the "tall spindle" swap...

If you are not familiar, the "tall spindle" swap uses the spindle from a 1978 and up full-size GM with 12 inch rotors, but the rotors are exchanged for 80's Camaro 1LE 12-inch rotors (wheel bolt pattern deal), and often aftermarket upper control arms are needed ($450+). Some times you can use just an offset upper cross-shaft and avoid those costly upper arms... This swap will fit inside factory 15 inch wheels, and probably most aftermarket 15 inch wheels...

There has been much discussion on this site about the benefits/drawbacks of that swap...

Search this forum for some of those threads, or look for the disc brake swap forum, further down the page...

I went with the tall spindle swap. I used the Global West suspension system and disc brake conversion kit. Everything came ready to bolt on. But you pay for it.
