TCSS1970 Jan 7th, 10, 8:14 PM Offer half and don't go over 1800 to 2000. Flash cash and be prepared to walk away if he want deal.
newmexguy Jan 7th, 10, 9:17 PM if it's a western car it will be worth more
body work is not cheap where ever one goes
1972convss454 Jan 7th, 10, 9:40 PM I paid a grand for a 72 complete with out the motor or trans but had a 12 bolt. It all depends how bad you want it. I would have to think long and hard to pay over 1500.
ducatibrandon Jan 7th, 10, 10:29 PM It sucks to find out what people really think these cars are worth. I'm going trough it right now and the truth hurts but it is what it is. Be sure and tell the guy "Hey if you can do better" then what you have the go for it.
Body work like the other guy said is $$$$$$$ to get done right. I just paid about 3k and I bought new fenders for him to install. Just an idea as to what you could spend if you plan on getting her going. The lowers that have rust will cost about 1k to get replaced as well.

poor boy pulling Jan 8th, 10, 12:10 AM well hell i didnt think it was that bad, ive been looking around on craigslist and locally for the last couple months and havent been able to find a car under 3k unless it is just hammered with rust or missing parts or lots of body damage.
Highway Star Jan 8th, 10, 12:56 AM will you be able to get running gear in it with the rest of your $? Is that your plan? If it is the best deal you've seen, jump on it, put in an engine and tranny, and drive the b'jesus out of it.:D
bigskycountry Jan 8th, 10, 9:41 AM I bought a '72 California car that appeared to be a very solid ride much like the one you describe it had a few small blisters in the paint. When you start to strip a car with some so called SMALL bodywork issues you will find that the rust is like a cancer. What you can see under the paint might not look that bad, but once its stripped you will be shocked at the damage that has already been done, and the cost, and time, to repair it. The guy wants to sell you a roller that needs body work, dont overthink it. You will get your check book out to bring this car back to a decent driver. Just trying to help, I have been there, done that. You will ALWAYS be much further ahead in time, and cash to buy the most solid car you can afford, and work from that. Besides primered cars always scare me. Did they primer it to cover rust, or leave it in primer and not finish painting the car because they knew the rust would shortly rear its ugly head again.

well luckily i have known the guy for about 10 years and have been asking him to sell this particular car for about 5 years, during that time i have been looking just incase he never did sell it of if i could find a good deal, the reason the car is primered is because it used to be a old show car in the 80s or so, and the clear started to really pop so his son one weekend striped the car down and shot some primer on it to make it look better than the failing paint job that was on it, the car is a driver now but he said he wanted to keep the engine and tranny because it has a pretty nasty 350 in it.

i had a 74 pontiac ventura that i have been saving parts for the last 5 years or so, i just sold the car last weekend, so i have a mostly built 10.5 to 1 377 chevy and also have a doug nash 5 speed sitting on the bench, or i have a guy that owns me some money that could build me a TH350 if i wanted to stay with the auto, im not sure which way i would want to go with it yet:confused:
Highway Star Jan 8th, 10, 12:03 PM Chris, use whichever the car is set up for...tranny wise. How many pedals does it have?
Either will be fine man, but if you go with the auto, make sure you have a pretty big stall for that 377. I'll bet the 5 speed would be nice.

car had a 350/350 in it, i thought about just throwing a TH350 in it to get it driving since the driveline is already set up for that length and everything, that and if i do buy the car thats about all the cash im going to have for a while so i have to work with what i got you know
Highway Star Jan 8th, 10, 12:36 PM There you go. Think about selling the 5 spd for more $ to get her going.
