: Front BBC springs

I currently have a small block SS, but I am converting to big block. I'm thinking I'm going to need some big block coils up front to compensate for the BBC and A/C. The problem is I have no idea what to look for as far as ratings or anything. Is there a good set to buy (QA1? Moroso? Moog?)? All I need is a set that will compensate for the extra weight of the BBC. Thanks.

its hard to guess what front coils for a car.first does your bbc have aluminum heads and intake?if the car is drivable,go find you a set of scales and get the front weighed then the total weight. give these weights to your spring dealer they will make the computation. good luck

The BBC will have aluminum heads and intake. I guess I should do this with my smallblock right, and then they can calculate? I really don't want to do it after I get the BBC in if I don't have to, since I'm guessing I would have to re-lift the BBC to get to the coils??

Hey, I have a BB in my 65 and I still have the moog SB springs(couple yrs old) in front. At first it was at the stock height, then after driving it, it sagged a little, i'm very pleased w/ the stance(not to low, not to high). I plan on switching them out later, but I have no reason why, unless someone can tell me. I also have cast iron heads and an aluminum intake(now),and no AC. It handles pretty good too w/ my 1- 1/4 sway bar. Before I installed the BB, some old timer mechanics were telling me I would be fine w/ the SB springs. I'll see if I can get a picture.

Why would you have to take out the BB to do a spring change?

IF,it was me. I'd leave the springs in it untill after you have the BB in it. THEN see how it sits. Go from there as to how you want it to sit. I like mine lower, some like them higher, and some like it to sit stock. It's easier to change the springs with the motor in then out.The weight helps hold the car down when changing. I have SB lowering springs in my 66 now and will be installing a crate 454 this spring (after paint) and I'm waiting till the BB is in to do the swap to BB springs.....

I would also leave the small block springs in for now and see how it looks and rides with the big block in it (might look great with aluminum heads/intake). Definitely leave the motor in when changing the springs, if you need to do that. Not too sure why you'd take the motor out to change the springs???
