If mostly track I would call Tim Hyatt at HRS. He sponsors UMTR

If it's a street car and occasional track I had good results when I was running my 454 with the Centerforce dual friction. You must follow their directions for break in and pivot ball height.

Mcleod 11" with mcleod 168 billet flywheel and pressure plate. I have 100hp less but have done a few clutch dumps with slicks and a ton with street tires. I've got several thousand miles on it now, maybe 5k? It has fairly easy pedal effort and nice feel. If your just going to run street tires, this will definitely work for you. You will never hook up enough with street tires to hurt it.

600+hp/600tq, dual friction here, and severly abused. Doesnt even make a smell. I'll get another.

Also - they have a 12" version now that fits on a standard 11" flywheel, good for 700ft lbs. This will be my next clutch, about $330.00.

Do you know the part number? I'm thinking about getting it but the guy from Jegs did not think it would work! The centerforce tech guy says it does!
Confused but want to make sure before I order one.

Well (as Dirty Harry said) the thing ya have to ask yourself is ARE YA FEELING LUCKY?

Seriously are ya gonna trust a guy at Jegs (an order processing / warehouse / phone answer guy possibly?) or a guy at Centerforce (Clutch Manufacturer)????

Call back and talk to the CF guy. He says the disc is bigger with the 12", so you have to be careful when bolting up the pressure plate.

But for a street car that will never dead-hook, the regular DF will be fine.

Here's the link for Dual Friction 12" clutch: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CTF-DF612909/

When I was looking for a clutch for my 496, I called Centerforce and they recommended their 12" Dual Friction setup. It will bolt right up in place of the 11" using the same flywheel. The tech told me it would be good for 700hp. I was looking at the DFX at the time. He said the DFX was a little aggressive for a street setup but would work (with a little chatter). He said an 11" DFX would handle 900 hp.

So far the 12" DF has worked flawlessly. I only have a few hundred miles on the setup (street driving) and it is holding just fine and shifts good also. I'll know more about how well it will hold up to more abuse maybe this spring / summer when I get it to the track.

Does the 12" work with the stock bellhousing or do you have to go aftermarket?

I have been running a stock clutch for 3 years and it is finally slipping to were I need to replace it. Since I'm upgrading to a Richmond 5. I figure to go with the best for the dollar. This seem logically, since mine is pushing 600 ft lbs at the flywheel. So I will order my 12" and go with it . I will also use my steel bell housing that I bought several years ago. My goal is to run a few burst down the track with some sticky tires!!

Frank,

I'm not sure about a stock BH working. I have a Lakewood scatter shield.

I think you'll be happy with it. My engine was not dynoed, but I guessing I'm in the 625hp/600ft/lb range and so far so good. The real test will be a well prepped track with my 29x11.5 Hoosier Quick Time Pro's.

I've heard lots of good stuff about the Centerforce Dual Friction. That's what the Pure Stock Drags guys use and that's what's behind my GTO Ram Air IV PSD motor.

Good luck,

Scott

What's the intended usage? What's the car weigh? Those factors, along with torque are the primary concerns when choosing a clutch.

A CF DF 12" will definately hold the power but may be too hard on the rest of your drivetrain if you're talking about lots of track time on slicks. The key to the longevity of a manual setup in a heavy car that has lots of torque is the clutch.

If you're going to see lots of track time, you would probably benefit from a slipper type clutch like those available from Ram and McLeod. It's more hassle but your drivetrain will thank you.

If your not talking about the track or using sticky tires, I wouldn't hesitate to go with the Centerforce setup.

My Chevelle is my long hauler, more than likely will not see track time.
Thanks for all the comments, Frank

For that power range, I suggest the the Mcleod 12" dual friction cheater clutch. Easy pedal, wont fail, I would feel good using up to 625-650 ft lbs of torque. It fits a regular 11" flywheel that has a multi-bolt pattern...I am using a Hayes 11" billet flywheel...

for the my 26 spline TKO trans, I was using the following part numbers;
disc; 360820
pp; 260873

I am confident you wont regret.. I am very fussy about parts and this is one of the few I rave about.
