I also posted this in the troubleshooting section but I think it may be more appropriate here. I noticed that there is lubricant leaking out of my manual steering gear. What lubricant is supposed to be used? Do you just undo the nut and adjusting screw and add it? I know this means a problem but I would like to add lubricant and see if it stops a vibration that occurs during any type of left hand steer input no matter how slight. The Haynes manual just says general lubicant or steering gear lubricant but what is it? Thanks, Skip

The shop manual recommends that you use a good brand of lithium based chassis grease. GM dealerships sell it as #12377985.

Do NOT overfill the gear with grease! When things get hot underhood, the grease expands inside the gear. You need some volume of air inside the gear for the grease to expand into. Otherwise, you could blow out your pitman shaft or your input shaft seal(s).

You should be able to add grease to your gear by removing one of the side cover bolts.
