: Astro vent installation

I am seeking the actual way to install my astro vents into my car properly. It would seem I have discovered the wrong way to install them about ten times now. I removed the vent assembly in a misguided attempt to diagnose a wiring issue behide the dash with out pulling the dash. (didn't work, lazy never pays for some reason.) When i went to reinstall the vent I discovered that there was nowhere to install a screw in the top of the vent. I dug in a bit more and found a funny slightly curved plate with an anchor nut mounted to it floating around loose behind my dash.. Now here is where the failure is occuring. I am unable to determine the implementation of the plate:confused:. I am even unsure if it is an actual part of my car or some rigged piece the previous owner pulled out of a junk drawer. Can anyone tell me how these vents were actually installed by the factory so I can get mine installed the right way. I have all of the books on my car and I still can't figure this one out.

Thanks, Woody

The plate with the anchor nut you found slides over the hole in the dash that the screw goes through holding the vent on. Make sure you put the nut part on the back side of the hole.

That is a good answer for the lower hole, but I am speaking of the upper hole. There does not seem to be a hole in the dash for the upper screw. Maybe I missed it.

Do you have a picture of which vent screw bracket thingy your talking about?
Are you talking about the big Y vent mounted to the firewall?

Woody if we are talking about the astro vents with the housing and chrome balls? That sounds like the correct top clip. The clip is natural steel finish maybe 1/2" x 3/4" with rounded corners and slight bend in the middle of it? As you tighten the screw it puts pressure on the clip to secure it to the dash. Kind of a funky setup from the factory but it works.

Yes thats the one, I can't seem to get it to stay put. I thought maybe it was a half-A@@ job when I saw it. Okay i will get it to stop falling out. I hoped it wasn't me.

I'm put together just fine, thank you.

Sorry...I just couldn't resist. This was once in a life time threat title!

I had the same problem with my vents, you just have to take your time and make sure that the clip is in the correct position while you tighten the phillips screw slowly.
