: Anyone attached the 66 oil gauge pressure line to block & gauge?

Has anyone had any luck with installing a oil pressure line on a 66 with mechanical gauges? If so, I would appreciate any advice.

I have been trying to locate the proper fittings and oil pressure line for a 66 with the U 14 Option. In looking at Paragon, they have an copper plated steel line that I think will work and is long enough.

It seems Paragon has some fittings for attaching this pressure line and Ground Up also has some fittings. I don't think Paragons fittings are correct; but they will work. Think GU's fitting will require other fittings. Also don't know if the fitting on the end of the line will attach to the guage without problems.

It appears that the L35 , L34, and L78 all used a Bushing that screwed into the block. Bushing appears to be a male/female bushing with 3/8NP threads on both ends. Then there was a elbow that screwed into the bushing (Looks like GU has a elbow like this it appers to be 3/8 MP male to 3/8" NP female). Then a special connector which appears to be a male/male that attaches the elbow to a special sleeve . The sleeve is used to attach the pressure line. The sleeve appears to be a special fitting that goes over the line and has female end that attches to the connector. All this is shown on page UPC U14 in the AIM.

Maybe where the line attaches to the guage is similar. With a connector attached to the guage. And a special sleeve used to attached the line to the connector. Think this connector would have to have female on one end to attached to the gauge and something on the other end to attahed to the sleeve that is used to attach the line. Does anyone know what the original attachment at the gauge looks like? Or better yet have some photo's.

I think this is the set up that Paragon uses. http://www.parts123.com/parts123/yb.dll?Parta~ShowPicTxt~Z5Z5Z50000050g~Z5Z5Z5GBBEL

Go to your local parts house, and ask them for the copper oil gauge tubing and connectors. I did it for my '64

LIke this but this is plastic instead of the copper:

Thats what I presently have. I am trying to put the original style back in the car. The pressure line that is actually copper plated steel with the coils at the top. Thanks.

James watch out for the ones at Ground up they might be selling the metric fittings for the Shift works gauge conversion set. they use metric fittings on the oil line they give you along with the one on the gauge. but I don't know for sure

Thanks for the heads up Keith. Thats one thing I hadn't thought of regarding the threads.

The line I am considering from Paragon (http://www.corvette-paragon.com/popup.aspx?src=images/Product/large/6641K.jpg) (that's not the actual line; but it has a better photo of the fittings on the line. I am considering the line with GM # 3833403, which is not the line listed in my AIM but probably what GM changed to in later years.)

It has kind of a male fitting that is suppose to screw into a 1/8 by 1/8 NPT fitting(http://www.corvette-paragon.com/popup.aspx?src=images/Product/large/34.jpg), with that fitting screwing into an1/8" by 3/8"NPT adaptor(http://www.corvette-paragon.com/popup.aspx?src=images/Product/large/33.jpg), that screws into the block, which is suppose to be drilled with a 3/8" NPT hole.

My problem now is finding a fitting that will connect my guage to the fitting on the end of the oil pressure line. :( Has to have a female on one end that the fitting on the oil line screws into and a female on the other end that would connect to my guage.

Hinshaw's has a kit that will fit right up to your paragon line, the fittings with the line will work with the kit and the gauge. Doug

Thanks Doug. I thought the adaptor that connects the elbow to the line from Hinshaws would not work, since the line Hinshaws had a female compression nut and Paragons has a male nut.

James, both Paragon's and Hinshaw's lines come with male fittings. The elbow is a female. I have used both lines, Paragon's is correct with the copper coating. The oil line kit from Hinshaw'w will work with either line. Doug

Thanks Doug. Hinshaw's doesn't have an online photo, so I was going of an email I received from them. Must have misinterpreted what they said.Yhey did say their elbow was a 45 degree elbow. From what i've read and been told the elbow for a manual (3 or 4 sp) should be a 90 degree. The elbow for an powerglide should be a 45 degree elbow.
