Hello, I'm going to swap discs on to the front of my '67 Malibu & would like your opinions. I can but a used setup and replace the calipers, rotors, etc. with auto store parts, or I can get a setup from e-bay with brand new spindles, brackets, and shields. Has anyone tried these kits? One such e-bayer is fatrodder & has good feedback, but I wonder if new parts are made from inferior metal. The used stuff has gotten the hell beaten out of it for 30 years, so maybe it isn't any better. What do you guys think? Also, my '70 El Camino with factory front discs has a small (metering?) valve near the master, and another (propotioning?) valve under the drivers feet on the frame. If possible, I'd like to use a single valve system on my '67, like I see on other cars. What parts / donor cars should I look for? Any opinions are appriciated, Thanks

ecs-

Dont know what your price range is so i will tell you what i did. I replaced spindles with superior spindles(2" drop) and then put wilwood disks and 4 piston calipers up front(purchased all from superior spindle) car stops really well. i used the one valve under the drivers feet. on my 67 lemans that is a distribution block only. i added a wilwood proportioning valve at the rear for the disks there. this set up is roughly 800. for the fronts. but imo well worth it. by your name i would assume you have a 454 and would want really good brakes. it was basically a turn key deal, hoses backing plate, bearings, seals, spindles and the brake rotors and calipers. you might need to upgrade to a bigger master. i used a 71 non-power one from a vette. it has a 1" bore that aids in the braking.

i think you could change to a b-body spindle and then have access to a whole bunch of other brake systems if you wanted to do used stuff.

you can check out my www for pictures of the car from the side. its the black one.

hope that might give you a little more insight.

good luck, tommy

Thanks for the reply. My '67 is a Sunday cruiser 283/Powerglide, so my main concerns were low cost and availability of wear parts, pads & stuff. B-body spindles sound like a great idea, common parts and the handling benefits. I got a 454 in my El Camino with factory disc/drum and it stops great. The manual drums in my Malibu are getting scary. I checked out your Lemans, That car is awesome! Thanks again, Glen

Hey ecs,
I am on the bottom of what I can spend on converting my 65 to disc's. I recently Ebayed and bought a set of brackets that when combined with some minor machine work i can use my front drum spindals.
Check the following links;
Booster, M cylinder + prop valve (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2460604346)
This seem's like a good deal. I dont have it yet.

The brackets I bought are now in Hand. They look good, but work may keep me to busy for the next month to install.

This one has already closed but it another solution;

Another guy I deal with is Andre's Used Chevelle parts. His web page looks to down at the moment. http://www.el-chevelles.com/
Email Me directly, i have his number at home. I think he is located in Missouri.

Good luck.

I have a fairly complete Word document with most of the info required to do a b-body spindle swap. No info on the master or prop valve and I haven't confirmed the calipers and hoses work but I have everything else. let me know if you want it.
