I am finally gonna lower my rearend down to an acceptable height. I couldnt do it before because my rear tires were too wide, and rubbed the inner quarters. What is the widest tires u run on a 72 malibu that fit in there? Right now i got 275 60 r 15. Also, what springs should i use, Im thinking about lowering it an inch or two, for me that will be a great change since im jacked in the back about 4 inches now! hahaha

psec12 I have a 72 Chevelle 4Dr. I run 245/45ZR17 on the front and 275/40ZR17 on the back. Thats 8 inch front and 10 inch rear. The inly thing I did to the Chevelle to help tire clearance was to roll the inner fender lips on the front and rear fenders.

Since I am not interested in keeping my chevelle totally stock I was not concerned about rolling the fender lips. Some may not want to do that to their cars. That said , putting the wheels ( Cragar SS Chrome) and tires on my car has changed its appearance from a Ma and Pa 4 Dr HDTP to a car that has been described as having "attitude". Frankly I had no idea that such a small change to the car would create such a dramatic change in appearance.

Just my personal experience but I hope it helps.

I should also mention that this was done leaving the Chevelle at stock ride height.

I installed 2" drop coils from Classic Performance Parts (http://www.classicperform.com) on my '69 Elky. I have 255/60-15 tires on 15x7 Corvette Ralley's and have no tire rub problems. The springs go for $114 pr. plus shipping.
