I have rebuilt the MC on my 69 Malibu but I am having difficulty installing the retaining ring. I can comress the piston assemblies with a 3/8 dia. wooden dowel but I cannot figure out how to compress the retaining ring to seat it in the groove.
This is strictly a one man operation. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

John,
Is the ring like those found on floating wrist pins? Or does the ring have two tabs with holes in them? Those require a special tool.

Thanks for your reply, Joe.The ring is made of spring steel with no holes on the ends. My first thought was to purchase one with the holes and use the snap ring tool to insert it but unfortunately my local supplier only had external rings. I solved the problem by using a 4" length of 3/8 dowel inserted into the piston to depress it past the snap ring groove using a clamp, then it was a simple operation to insert the ring with offset needlenose pliers.
Thanks again for your reply.
