I am looking to put new rims and tires on my chevelle and i needed some advice. I bought a set of 17x8 American Racing rims that i am going to use, with 4.5 inches of backspacing. i need some help with tires, what size tires should i run front and rear? i was told a 275/45R17 would clear the rear but i dont know, what do you guys recommend with tire size for front a rear? the car is not tubbed or anything just stock clearance, will a 275 clear the fender in the rear??
Thanks for the help,
Evan

What style of look you want depends on tire size as well. Do you prefer a lot of side wall, a pro touring look, or some people such as myself like the big and littles. Big tire in back smaller in front.
Have you tried the tire data base thread? It has some good pics and tire info. It's one of the first threads on this wheel and tire page. It has something for everyone in there!

275 is too wide for an 8" rim. I'd go with a 255/45

I agree with the 255. That would be the width of tire I would probably use. The series depends on your pref on side wall.
I have a 255 on an 17x 8.5 wheel that looks pretty nice.

I have 275/50r17 on 8" with 5" BS on rear. (within tire mfg rim width spec)
I think 275/45r17 need a 9" wheel.
