I am just completing a complete overhaul of the front suspension with new parts and bushings. What is the maximum number of shims allowed? I wonder if the factory specs are possible with an old car? If I end up with more shims than factory description does anyone have any comments?
Thanks, Can't wait to drive it again

I'm assuming you're talking about the upper control arm. There is no limit, but there must some thread showing through the top of the nut when both bolts are tightened down.
Has it been to the front end shop yet for an alignment? If it has, and the shim pack seems excessively thick, then the frame may be sagging a bit near the front crossmember. A frame shop will have to be brought in to straighten, or you may be able to go with offset control arms.

Randy, when a frame sags with age, which way do the rails move? Do the frame rails twist bringing the upper A arms closer to the engine or farther?

If I remember right, from what I've read in other posts in this forum, the tops of the frame rails twist inwards toward the engine. Several people here have had to deal with this, and hopefully one of them can provide a little more insight.

Forget factory specs..shoot for about
-1\2 to 0 deg Camber
3-4 deg. postive caster (or as much as you can get
1\8 " total toe.
You car will handle much better.
