: Got Speedwarning?

I have a 1969 Chevelle speedwarning guage cluster. Complete.
Saving this for my vert.

Got me wondering. How many of you guys have factory optional speedwarning in your car? RPO U15
Only 4,372 1969 Chevelles got it.

I'm thinking this was only available on 1966-69 Chevelles?
(just talking Chevelles here)

The Chevelle that we bought new has it. I have only seen one other with it and it is a '69 like ours.

Edit: Speed Warning indicator is RPO U15 installed on 4,546** Chevelles out of 464,669* that it was available for in 1968
4,372* Chevelles out of 503,352* in 1969
I'd call that rare....
*numbers from Len Williamson production finals.

I don't know of any Len Williamson.

I trust most all information contained within Mark Meekins NCOA Chevelle Model ID Codes book. I don't have it in front of me at this moment.

I did find this website that shows 4372 units for 1969.
http://www.chevellestuff.com/1969/options.htm

1968 shows 4546
1967 shows 5945

Either way, it's right at about 1% which makes it very rare.

It's interesting to note that an $11.60 option could literally save you thousands of dollars over the years.

Cruise control has probably saved a lot of people from losing their Drivers licenses over the years as well.

OOPs! looked at the wrong year!!
4,372 out of 503,352 is the correct number for 1969.

Len Williamson is the guy who went to GM and spent hundreds of hours getting this information and putting into a very concise book listing the models and options by GMs records.
He should be credited for his work.

Do you have the name of his book?

I have all of the Chevrolet By The Numbers books by Alan Colvin. They seem pretty accurate.
For Chevelle specific info I use the NCOA Chevelle Model ID Codes Book.

Speedwarning? Haven't heard of it. Does it do anything or is it just a stationary arm on the speedometer?

When I bought my Chevelle, the seller had another '69 that had several options including the speed warning. That was the first time I had ever seen one.

It came as a factory option on my `69 6 cylinder post sedan. Pretty wierd they'd order that on a bare bones car.
Here's the original invoice.

You set the white needle to the desired speed and when you go over that speed a buzzer goes off.

There is an adjustable dial type knob that mounts under the dash lip. Black knob.

I see where most all of the aftermarket Chevelle parts supliers are selling a repro harness for it.

And I found in a Nova parts catalog where you can buy the cable.
Don't know where you'd find the bracket that mounts on the dash.

I think a friend of mine has a complete speedwarning setup for a 69. I'll have to email him and ask again. MIne is missing the cable and bracket. I bought mine on eBay about 6-8 yrs ago.
The 69 setup was going for about $200-250. Not sure what they are going for now, if you can even find one.

And this one. It has the cable.
