I think you just have to pull the axle,s,remove the backing plates and add a bracket to mount the caliper.Hydraulics are a whole nuther story. Also do a search, maybe someone posted something that'll help you.

the 98+ f-body rear brakes have a built-in 'drum' type e-brake... the 93-97 fbody rear brakes would probably be a much easier install.

I bought a used set off a '95 z28, with the backing plates, and it bolted right up to my axle. However, I am goin with no e-brake, and removed all the e-brake stuff from the calipers, but the 'lt1 f-body' rear brakes use a cable-pull style e-brake more like the original on a chevelle.
I've heard of plenty of people doing the ls1 rear brake swap, but the e-brake design complicates the conversion.

This is what I did and I know it works. Except the parking cable, the rear setup was bolt-on.

Yes, the C5/LS1 rear disc swap bolts up easily. I just did it this weekend on my Chevelle. The stock axles work fine for the swap.

I have a pic of the final install that I'll post tomorrow. And will dig up the part numbers I used for the swap. I'll also post this on my website as well for those to see. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

I just did the 98 swap on my 66 chevelle. Very simple. I used everything from a 98 Z-28 except the cables. I used them from a 95 Impala SS and then used a shorter Intermediate calble. Roughly 45" long I believe.

Hello! Hey 72SSAbody how about sending me the part #s that worked for you. Also, do you have the rotor and/or piston diameter specs?
Am I right in reading that the corvette calipers will bolt up to the F-body abuttments?
Thanks!

Here are the part #'s

GM #: 10444625 & 10444626 get you the RH & LH backing plates, e-brake shoes & e-brake mechanism.

The cardone caliper part #'s are on my website.

Use '98-'02 F-body rear rotors (true 12" rotors). Be aware that some 15" wheels won't clear the calipers.

I'll have to work on getting the e-brakes to hook up correctly.

Jeff,
Yes, the C5 calipers are pretty much the same as the LS1 calipers. Now, for the setup that I posted, the LS1 setup, you'll need to use the LS1 abutments as they bolt up properly to the LS1 backing plates.

Good luck with the swaps.

Joe and everybody

a while back i picked up a set of LS1 camaro rear discs and attempted to swap them on my 66. everything went great except for wheel clearance with my 15" rallies. since i didnt have the money to buy wheels at the time i put the drums back on.

i was able to get the parking brake functioning using the stock parking brake cables. what i did was to face the calipers to the rear and swap calipers side to side (bleeder screws up). then i cut an old drum parking brake lever and welded it to the top of the LS1 parking brake lever, which allowed the original parking brake cable to attach to the LS1 lever. last i fabbed up a simple bracket to hold the cable that bolted to the lower control arm point on the rear end.

everything went pretty well except for the wheel clearance issue. i probably could have used a spacer to get the clearance i needed. but i wasnt comfortable with that since i plan to take this car to the drag strip.

i have pictures, if anyone wants i can email them to you.

Thanks for the great info!
About the wheel clearance issue, did the rally wheels hit the outer part or the face of the caliper?
Also, Brandon, I'd really appreciate it if you would send me your pics. Did you get rid of the parts?

Jeff

the rallies actually hit on the top of the caliper basket and the caliper. i sent a picture showing the area where the rally wheel makes contact. i think that this problem is unique to the rally wheel due to the way they are made. ive got the feeling that other wheels such as the 15" 70 and up z28 wheels or the spoked ss wheels would fit fine.

yes i did sell the brakes. im kinda partial to the old chevy rally wheel, if the wheels would have fit over the brakes i would have ran them.

Thanks Brandon! I like rally wheels too.
I guess I'll research the 98 S10/Blazer setup some more.
