does anyone know if anyone carries a coil spring compressor that mounts on the outside of the coil spring instead of going inside the spring?????? :confused:

There are several available for doing struts, most tool manufacters sell them. They won't work on a LSA front end though. What are you working on?

Denny is right, the outside ones won't work. Not enough room between the control arms to get them in. At least the ones I tried. Have to use the ones that go up thru the shock mount hole, PITA.

Once you know the trick it's easy. I don't use a spring compresser to remove the springs, only to install them. I only use the bottom hooks and use the upper spring pocket to compress the springs. Use a floor jack under the bottom control arm. Compress the spring only enough so it clears the bottom control arm pocket. You will need a pry bar to get the spring seated in the bottom control arm. Once the spring is seated in the pocket, jack the car up with the floor jack under the control arm and crank down on the spring compresser. Tighten the ball joint nuts on the spindle.
