Guys, can I permanently attached the tail lamp housing to the quarter? I can't welded it, I don't believe. Can it be successfully attached to the quarter, filled and sanded/painted?
What would you use to attached it?
Thanks

I know for sure it cannot successfully be welded on as the tail lamp housing is made of pot metal or some type of casting. Without being able to weld it I don't believe you could connect the two parts without some type of cracking issue down the road.

On my 69 I ground the surface of both the 1/4 and the taillight housing epoxy primed and used 2 part epoxy that I use to bond 1/4 panel's on with/ 3M makes a great panel bonding adhesive that works real well. After it is dry i roughed up the 1/4 and ext.with some 36grit and applied a product called All-Metal (made by USC I think). 2 coats of All-Metal and one thin coat of glaze to finish it off followed by coat of etching primer then 3 coats of good primer.( I use DuPont Chromapremier 32430S 2k premier primer) block and paint.:D P.S. no cracking or anyother issues so far and I drive it .The moter makes over 800 horse so the car is subject to vibration and stress with no issues. If it done properly it will last. Been in the business over 20 years. with countless # of builds under my belt if you take the time to do it right the first time there wont be a second time.

Thanks, I figured it couldn't be welded. As for bonding it to the 1/4, I will give that a try.
Thanks!

I hope you realize that if you bond the tail light extension to the quarter panel on a 68-69 Chevelle, you won't be able to change the tail light bezel or lens if something happens to it.

You can if you make a panel for access or just drill out a 5/16 hole to access the bolts or screws like I used.:yes:
