: Coolant Temp. Sensor Wiring
blk600cc Dec 26th, 09, 1:55 PM 72 Chevelle 350 here.
Recently put her back in the car (rebuilt engine) and am finishing up wiring it. Now during this whole process, I accidently broke off the "clip" that the two green wires (see pic) went to that connected onto the sensor itself (see pic also).
So here's the two wires for it, and the sensor. What do I do to get 'em connected and where can I buy it? Thanks :D

Bryan59EC Dec 26th, 09, 6:02 PM You can use a couple of those 1/4" female spade connectors if you have to.
The blue ones------they will slip right on there------as for orientation, could not tell you which wire goes to which terminal
blk600cc Dec 27th, 09, 3:11 AM Correction: Coolant temperature sender.
Anyway, have the two green wires, the two female spade connecters and the sensor waiting to be connecting together. I'm going to try and figure out which end they connect on. Have a 50/50 chance of getting it right off the bat but I'm going to check out different information and see what I can find.
Wonder if there is any markings on the sender itself by the terminal ends. Want to get it wired properly the first time but if anyone has any info, that would be fantastic! If not, sure I can find something.
Also a little weird to me seeing the wires. Both green - both for this sender. But one of them is a lot longer than the other. As you can see in one of those pics.

At least one of the wires is for the TCS.
(not that I remember much about that) :(
Red 1/4" spade connectors will fit the wire size better but I would think that someone sells the original type connectors.
ss396boy Dec 27th, 09, 12:13 PM yikes.... look out for that black overspray ;)
blk600cc Dec 27th, 09, 7:22 PM The TCS solenoid isn't those green wires. That one has a blue and light color (not sure which color exactly) but that one has the original connectors. Anyway, it is on the driver side so I am hunting down wiring diagrams and trying to figure out.
And for that black spray paint... this was completely unrelated. A spray paint bottle broke off and as I was wrapping it up and going to throw it away, got some on the car. The body needs prepping so this stuff comes off easily when sanding. Not worried about that now... just want to get engine finished up and wired. Then we'll start working on the body.
Thanks for the help
blk600cc Dec 28th, 09, 2:37 PM UPDATE: So I am having a hard time trying to figure out which wire goes on which terminal. I asked a mechanic online and he said this:
"a 2-wire temp sender is just a thermistor (a temp sensitive resistor). There is no polarity to a thermistor/resistor. So it does not matter how they are hooked up - as long as both wires get on there you will be fine"
Now, is that true?? Or if I hook it up wrong (have 50/50 chance here), would it do anything that alerts me that it goes the other way? Or anything you can provide will be great! Thanks a bunch guys!
Dean Dec 28th, 09, 2:53 PM Well, I learn something every day.
I didn't know there was a two terminal sender on the driver's side.
cs40racing Apr 24th, 10, 4:22 PM I know this is a four month old thread but did you figure it out? Does it matter? I just rewired mine and hooked it up and the car hasn't exploded so assume it is ok. Also what exactly will happen if this sensor is not good or hooked up?
Chevelle_Nut Apr 24th, 10, 4:37 PM You can get the pigtails from Chevelle vendors like NPD, Hinshaws and probably OPGI.
Chris R Apr 26th, 10, 10:29 PM Sounds like you need a manual for that car to look into the wiring diagrams.
