I've got a '67 Malibu with a ten bolt rear that measures 53 1/2" from backing plate to backing plate. I have found a 12 bolt rear to replace it with, but it has a 54 1/4" width. Will this matter?

The only difference is that the sidewalls of your tires will stick a half an inch further out. IF you have clearance problems now, you'll really have problems later. The solution is a wheel with an extra half inch of backspacing. Other than that, the rear end bolts right in.
