Several months ago, many members were kind enough to share their expertise on the subject of upgrading the steering on my Elky. Finally scraped up the bucks to do it. Wow!

Put in a box from a '95 FE3 code Caprice. Pretty much a bolt in, but required a shorter pitman arm and some fooling with the tie rod ends to center it. Probably going to have to get it aligned now, but it drives fine.

Worth it? You betcha! The box cost me $100. Since I was replacing the power steering pump, it seemed like a good time to do it. The car really feels good. Not quite as sharp as some, but I can cut the apex on curves with real precision now. Little more steering effort now, which is fine, for it was much too sloppy before.

I should add that I put in urethane bushings years ago, along with 2" lower springs f & r, AirLift rear bags, 15 x 7 IROC wheels. All of this results in an Elky that handles pretty damned good. Yes, I can carry a half ton of dirt without any problems.

Power? I'm running a 350 with 9.5:1, stock big valve heads, '92 Firebird TPI conversion from Street & Performance, Edelbrock headers, high flow cat, 3" single exhaust with a Flowmaster, 3.37 rear gears, 700R4 overdrive trans. It can get out of it's own way.

Next on the list: 1 1/4" front sway bar, heavier rear bar, boxed control arms, dropped spindles. All it takes is money.

Thought you all would like to know how this conversion worked out. Thanks to those many experts that guided my choice.
