I'm interested in the direction of the water flow in the heater hoses.

Does it come out of the water pump, through the heater hoses, and then dump back into the manifold or vice-versa?

HOT water flows AWAY from the engine from ANY outlet at the front of the intake manifold. Hoses connected to the water pump (radiator or heater) are sucking.
