I would like to know if the parking brake assembly can be removed and left out of the system.

My son and I have a 72 Chevelle that we use as a drag car, we are redoing the rear end and I see no reason for a parking brake, and would like to lose the weight and unused parts.

Can we remove the assembly an still have a safe, and working system?

Any help would be welcome I need this car to be safe when my son is driving down the track.

Thanks in advance,

Al Rubenacker

IDK but I have no parking brake cable and need one. Feel free to send it my way if you take it off.

take it off if you just need to shave those 5 pound off the weight of the car. lots of people run around without having it hooked up, so it might as well just be removed.

Keep it, if your son has to change a front tire, its good to put it on just in case the it were to roll. It's weight is so minor, it isn't worth it. You have more weight in the rear window regulators and guts you can get rid of, since most quarter windows aren't used. Joe AzChevs.com

Thanks for your input, I think we will leave it out when we reassemble the brakes.

As for changing the tire we always use wheel blocks any time the car is jacked up.

I'm not so concerned about the weight but I see no need to put parts in that will not be used I just was not sure that it could be removed and left out.

Thanks again,
