My new 454 came with all the accessories & brackets out of the 1980 1ton truck it was in.
The truck had hydroboost. Last night i pulled the pump out to drain it and clean it up for storage, and i noticed that its definitely different than the other pumps i've seen.
1st it has an extra return hose nipple sticking out- one from the back and one from the side.
2nd the body is a little bigger
3rd when you pull the cap- there is a funny rubber washer in there that has to be pulled out through the throat to get the dipstick in or out.
Questions...
Is this pump going to be ok to run with our standard power steering boxes? Wondered if since it was hydroboost had extra pressure or anything.
I know its setup for the later style O-ring lines, I plan on swapping in a GJC box anyway, so will just get 80's monte carlo lines for it.
Can i cut the 2nd return line nipple off and weld it shut so it doesn't look like it was there w/o hurting the pump internals? (ie is there a way to remove the pump from the tank?) or should i just buy a new pump (at least i'll already have the brackets & pulley)
THanks-
Ben
