: Replacing front springs

I recently rebuilt the entire front suspension on my 67 Malibu Sport Coupe, including new front springs. At the time the springs were installed, the entire car was stripped of all interior, drivetrain, glass, and sheet metal. I noticed that the new springs had the upper control arms pressed all the way down to the new suspension bumpers on the frame, but expected that the correct ride height would be acheived when all the original components were installed. Now that I have all the drivetrain and front clip installed (still no interior or glass, the front height is still too high, although it has settled somewhat. Is this normal and will the springs settle in over time, or have I got the wrong springs? The car was originally and is still equipped with A/C and a small block. The springs were purchased from AutoZone, where I had only two choices - regular or heavy duty. Assumed I needed heavy duty for the A/C weight.

wait untill the car is complete and driveable before cutting the springs. If you cut to much you can not put the cut portion back on.

Did you tighten the lower control arm bolt with the car in the air? these need to be tightened with all the weight of the car on the ground.
If you tightened this bolt while the car is in the air, you preload the bushings, and the car will set way to high. If this is what happened, just loosen the lower control arm bolts let the car settle/bounce it up and down a couple of times, and then tighten them up.

Indeed the suspension was installed and tightened with no weight on it. I'll loosen the bolts tomorrow and post a reply. Thanks Rocky.

Rocky - you were right on. Suspension height is now OK. Thanks.

Good deal, glad that solved the problem. that is a common error that people make when replacing the front suspension.
