I am going to put the PST polygraphite super front end kit in my 66 chevelle. I am also going to put in 4 new KYB gas shocks. I now have air shocks on the back and am wondering if changing these out are a good idea? I am also going to replace the springs and am looking to lower the front end ride height. I want to lower it about one inch. Should I also put 1 inch lowering springs in the rear. I am considering Moog springs, are these ok? Last question, I have boxed the rear lower control arms and that took care of the wheel hop problems on launch and now I am wondering how important would it be for me to change the rear upper control arms? Is it enough just to switch out the bushings, or should I look to get adjustable. The car is used mainly for cruising but will see a good 6-10 trips to the track this year.
You have the same set up in front that I have, but I went with stock replacement big block springs (I think they are Moog). Definitely get rid of the air shocks. They do a number on the lower shock mounts. and usually handle crappy. The choice to put lowering springs in the rear also will have to be yours. Do you want it higher in the rear or level? Adjustable upper arms are probably not necessary unless you plan to fine tune the rear suspension for better launches. I would at least change the bushings, though.

Hey oregonchevelle,
I also have a '66SS with a big block. Right now it has worn out springs up front, but I kind of like the rake of the car on the saggy springs.
Does your car have big block and if so, where did you find springs that only drop it 1 inch? I looked at the Hotchkis ones, but I think you pay a lot of money for them to paint the word "hotchkis" on them. I was planning on going with stock replacement springs like Tom Wood said in the post above mine.
Also, have you checked out coilsprings.com? I haven't used them, but read some nice things about them on this site.

Just remember that after 38 years of service, the springs have likely sagged over the years... Therefore a "1-inch" dropped spring might not drop the car from where it is, but drop it from "stock" which may have been higher than it currently is...
As for the upper-rear control arms, absolutley nothing wrong with using the stock uppers, but I'd definitely go with new bushings...
Rubber versus Poly on those upper rear arms??? Thats your decision... Poly bushing WILL hurt the suspension for cornering and driveability. They might help with launch slightly.
If money isn't a big issue, maybe try the Edelbrock or Currie uppers with the spherical "Johnny Joint". These allow pinion angle adjustability, and greater articulation than stock or boxed upper arms... Poly upper bushings, I'd only use those for a drag car, if even that...
