I'm trying to remove a set of front discs off a '70 Nova from the ball joints out. I seperated the control arms and the lower control arm is sagging on the ground, with the disc with it. How can the assembly come off the lower control arm? It is attached to that and the steering bar. Do I just have someone hold the disc off while I wack the bolts with a hammer to knock it loose? Seems reasonable but wanted to double-check first. Thanks.

Take the nut off of the ball joint, put the pickle fork inbetween the ball joint and the spindle, and whack it untl the spindle and rotor and caliper pop off.

....... or you can back the nut off, and with afore mentioned bfh, whack the side of the spindle on the flats where the tapered stud of the balljoint goes thru it. That way you don't eat the rubber seals. It works even better if you are really co-ordinated and can use two hammers and whack on both sides of the spindle at the same time. That makes the hole go egg shaped and the stud comes out easier. Speaking of easier, it's easier if you knock the b/joints loose before you take the spring pressure off of them. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Speaking of easier, it's easier if you knock the b/joints loose before you take the spring pressure off of them. graemlins/thumbsup.gif [/QB]PROVIDED you ONLY loosen the lower ball joint nut...NOT remove it. This also assumes that the upper ball joint is still attached and you can let the whole assembly hang free.

Once the ball joint is broken free you have to have a jack under the lower control arm to lower the lower control arm and release the spring pressure.
