Heard something I had never heard before, 66-67 Chevelles with the 375hp, all had ant. on the quarter instead of the front fender. Is this so, or was it just an option? Thanks Thomas

I am not expert, but I believe the antena on the rear was an option. I have never heard of the rear antena as a SS only item, or even a 375hp only item....I may be wrong, maybe someone else will chime in. I know it is this way on the '69's.........option that is.

Could you even get 396-375 in 66? Thought they came out in 67.

Yes, L78 was an option

2099 L78's in 66.
AM radio came with a rear antenna. AM/FM came with a fender antenna.
I think you could get a rear antenna with an am/fm but.....had to order special.
I could be wrong but this is the info I have.

I think Herbie is on to something. My 68 GTO came with an am/fm and the antenna was mounted on the fender. (not for long, I am switching it to a windshield antenna.)

I think this is correct. Only AM radios had the rear mounted antenna and it might show on the cowl tag options as an "S"

Muscle Care Red Book shows two options: U73 Manual Rear Antenna-U75 Power Rear Antenna for 66 but only the U73 option for 67. Anybody have a 67 with power rear antenna? Don't think they could fit the power antenna under the front fender so that it had to be mounted in the rear. Not sure why you would pay $9.50 to move the manual antenna to the rear but 66,846 owners must have had a reason.

Curt's 67 L78 has a rear mount antenna, I believe.... Not sure what radio it has, but I think its coded on the cowl tag.

like said above the engine had nothing to do with the antenna. if you ordered a AM/FM you got the front fender antenna. for AM only you could have rear or front weather you had a
L6 or a 396. unless you did not order a radio then you got none at all

My 66SS had the antenna on the front fender. But the radio was gone when I got it, so im not sure which radio I had. I have no reason to believe it was anything more then an AM radio though. No evidence of any sort of optional equipment to show otherwise.

My '66 still has the original AM radio and the antenna was in the front fender.

I fail to see what having a 375/396 would have to do with antenna location.

3099 L78's in '66. BTW I also fail to see why there would be any connection between the L78 and rear mount antenna options. Unless many of the L78 purchasers were concerned about weight distribution and traction, LOL.

Actually the 66-67 L78 option was two rear mounted antennas, this was to keep the car from pulling to the right during high speed runs.....you had to check the box listed as DRMA....(Dual Rear Mounted Antenna).............I may be wrong, but I think I read that somewhere............LOL

Front antenna was standard with all radios... The rear antenna ( both manual and power) were optional when equipped with the AM radio ( FMs were limited to the front-mount)...

If the car wasn't ordered with a radio, there would be no antenna...

I have seen several 1966 L78, and they have all been Front-fender antennas...
