I was wondering if a do-it-yourselfer could do this at home in the garage with a 4000 lb jack, some jack stands and some hand tools? Or is it best to let a pro do this?

Yeah I've heard about dum-dums that got pelted in the head with a coil spring.

It's easy to do. Do a search for front springs. I know I have read it on here also.

The main thing is to go slow and be careful. I leave the front shocks in while I undo the balljoints. I take out the lower shock bolts and loosen the top nut until the nut is flush with the end of the shaft. That way if something were to suddenly shift or pop the shock will hold the spring. This will leave enough play to get the balljoint undone. Once the balljoint pops then remove the shock so the lower control arm will drop. You can email me with any questions.

Also you will need a spring compressor that goes on the inside of the control arms to install the new springs. You can't use an external style. Depending on the springs you may be able to cheat by placing the spring in place and SLOWLY jack the lower control arm up to the spindle. I have done this before.

Also plan on doing an alignment when done.
