My local wrecking yard has a stack of 12 bolts. They are all in a pile with no identification as to which car they came out of! How can I visually i.d. these to select a Chevy one? how can I distinguish from a BOP?Does a 12 bolt Chevy have a 12 bolt ring gear and the others don't? All of them look similar with the coil spring pads etc. Thanks for your help, Scott!

What does a side view(rib design) of a chevy housing look like? What if the rear covers have been changed? 12 bolt ring gears? Thanks, Scott!

The Chevy has a 12-bolt ring gear, the Oldsmobiles (Type "O") do not.

The side ribs for the Chevy will be parallel (similar to the Type "O" shown above.

The Chevy rearend will also have "C"-clips retaining the axles, although they might be difficult to find for a novice. The Type "O" does not have C-clips, and the axles are retained by the pressed on bearings out by the wheels...

All of them look similar with the coil spring pads etcMake sure these are "A" body rearends (Chevelles) and not Impala rearends. The Impalas also have coil springs, but the brackets are completely different (as well as the length).
