It has been a while, but first you've got to pop the door panels off and take a look.

Do you not have handles on there now? If you do, it's pretty much a remove and replace deal.

raise door window,remove door trim, detach upper rear corner of water deflector to get at screws through access hole.

there is no door handles on it,but i have new ones for but the rod seems to be to long in the door button can anyone help?can anyone tell me how to do it step by step,has anyone ever had to cut the rod to make it work because it is to long,not sure if it aftermarket or opp

Outside handles then I presume.

I had to bend the rod just the right amount but that was on my 69.

The rods have to be cut to the proper length, then bent down. The best way is to cut a little bit at a time, and keep fitting the handle until you have the right length.

Lucky you-----mine were too short (66 Elky) and the doors just would not open at all from the outside.
I ended up using the original buttons instead of the new ones.

Cut to proper length put in a vise and hit it with a rubber/iron mallet lightly to get right angle. works every time.

proper alignment and pressure
