I have a 67 Malibu and right now it has air shocks in the rear, which are leaking. So I want to replace them with a street/strip shock that isn't too expensive. What would u guys suggest? I was looking at the KYB Gas-A-just shocks for the rear, are they any good? What should i buy...? Also, for a street/strip application dont I want the front to be a little firm and the back a little loose?

I can't say for sure as far as the KYB's for the strip because I haven't played with mine on the track enough but I have them on all 4 corners and the car rides and handles very well.

I'm very happy with my KYB's but I do not know how they would perform on the track as my El Camino see's no track time, just your general weekend sunny day cruiser.

"Good", "street" and "strip" really don't go along with "not too expensive".

I know they are pricey, but QA1 adjustable shocks are really a good way to go. They run about $140 each from Summit but provide 12 levels of dampening (in both directions). An added bonus is that they are aluminum and weigh substantially less than steel shocks. They are really easy to adjust with a little knob at the base of each shock.

Another alternative to "adjust" your rear suspension is to install rear spring air bags. You can balance the air pressure in each side to help straighten out your launches. I think you put more air in the passenger side a less in the driver side.

I am using both QA1 shocks and air bags on my wagon project.
