: tall spindle calipers???????

I am in the process of changing over my stock disc brakes, with some b-body spindle, and some big 1LE rotors, that are slotted & drilled. My question is I was looking at calipers (online at napaautoparts), for the 1LE rotors and I see there a single and dual piston styles. Will they both work on this setup

One caliper you can use is from a '70-'76 F-body (Camaro or Firebird). Along with the brake pads for the same application. That's what I'm using with the 1LE rotors and b-body tall spindles. Works great.

is that a single piston calipers? I would like two use a two piston caliper.

I do not know of any 2-piston caliper that will bolt right up to a "B" spindle.

Why the "urgency" to use a 2-piston caliper. 1 big vs. 2 small makes no braking difference.

Use the stock Chevelle single piston calipers... they work great! This even lets you use the stock brake hoses!

Be careful about the dual piston calipers... the pistons are quite a bit smaller and therefore take a lot more pressure to operate. Your MC will unlikely be a good match and you will not like the feel of the pedal.

which caliper would offer the most stopping power? Does the F-body have a bigger pad surface? I am just want the most bang for the cheap buck.

The twin-piston unit is a PBR Caliper that needs it's own special mounting bracket and won't be a bolt on for the tall spindle swap. Listen to BC and Dennis, they know what they are talking about. I'd go with the second generation F-Body caliper if it is cheaper than the Chevelle caliper, but obviously the chevelle caliper is a true bolt-on.

If you want light weight, try the GEN III single piston caliper from Wilwood. It is an aluminum single piston caliper that is a bolt on replacement for the stock B body caliper. Used extensively by the weekend racers where the rules dictate a stock style caliper. They work GREAT and are a bolt on!

thanks, for all the help. I think that I am going to go with the GEN III calipers. I think that is the best caliper, for performance?

what size piston did you use, the 2.75 or the 2.38? Wouldn't I want the bigger piston?

Won't the stock B-body calipers work?

I don't have the stock calipers. I just want the best braking power. Some circle track guys told me that the wilwood gm III calipers, offer a lot more stopping power; over the stockers.

maybe the wilwoods are better, but you can buy reman'd units from Autozone or TW for like 25 bucks a side..mine work great on my 1LE's...bolt right up too..

What is the diffence between the '70-'76 F-body (Camaro or Firebird) calipers and the stock B-body units? I am looking at doing same conversion and have the B-body calipers available.

I used the stock B calipers from Advance, took the grinder, cleaned them up and painted them red. They work fine, not sure if there is any difference between the B and F body. Go to the parts store and have them pull both and compare.
