: GRD 1 at ignition switch can be removed?

OK I have a little issue. I am cleaning up my '82 dash harness and am down to 1 wire I don't know what to do with. Well I want to remove it but don't want to screw anything up by doing so. I have made a custom gauge cluster with all Autometer gauges so all stock gauges/lights are gone.

I have a dark green wire that runs from the firewall connector to the water temp switch the used to be placed in the cylinder head, although the wire was removed from the engine harness years ago. Inside the car from the firewall connector this wire then runs to the ground side of the temp light as the other side of the light is a common hot for the dash harness. Car also had a temp gauge, but I assume the light was for when things went bad.

Then another green wire also runs from the same spot in the firewall connector to the ignition switch to a terminal labeled GRD 1. Basically 2 wires from the dash harness merge and run into 1 wire to the temp switch. On my factory diagram I then see a legend right next to the ignition switch that states:

OFF-OPEN
START-GRD 1, GRD 2 CONNECTED (**Green wire is at the GRD 1 terminal)
IGN 1, BAT 1, SOL CONNECTED
RUN-IGN 1, BAT 1,ACC
BAT 2, BAT 3, IGN 3 CONNECTED WITH LINE ABOVE
ACC-ACC, BAT 2, CONNECTED
BAT TERMS 1, 2, 3 COMMON

So can I remove this wire from the ignition switch as it seems to only have been a ground for the water temp gauge?

In later years, this wire's signal was known as "Lamp Test".

It's only purpose was to send a ground to make the TEMP or HOT dummy light come on when cranking. If the light came on, the owner was good to go. If it did not come on, this was to be a warning to owner that the bulb has burned out--this could have spelled disaster down the road if the engine overheated and the bulb to warn the driver was now burned out.

If your custom set-up has absolutely no need for a ground signal or "Lamp Test" during cranking, simply disconnect the wire and wrap it with electrical tape.
