A while back when I was having my front suspension rebuilt, the person who worked on it told me I was probably going to be needing a new steering box. What do I ask for when buying one?
I have a 64 Chevelle SS w/PowerGlide transmission and power steering.
Thanks.

Depends...

Do you want to go with a faster ratio or are you just want a stock box?

I have no idea. I don't know what this ratio stuff is. Can you explain it?
Thanks.

Basically a faster ratio (given the same steering stops in the box) will give you less turns from lock to lock. Also, the faster ratio boxes can come with bigger "t-bars" that will yield a higher effort "feel" of the box.

You might want to do a search for username "JimL82". He's our resident Saginaw Steering Division engineer graemlins/thumbsup.gif Plenty of info from him and the discussions on the subject.

If you want to stay stock then just ask the parts counter for a power steering box for a '64 Chevelle.
