Went to open the drivers door and it will not open. I have tried open it from the inside and outside and nothing. When trying from the outside their is no resistenance when pushing on button and from the inside the handle seems to be working but will not release the latch. The door lock dose not raise up as high as the right side but does sound like it is unlocking.
Any ideas would be apprediated.

Thanks;

Tony

Sounds like your linkage has fallen off. You'll need to take the inside door panel off and take a look.

I put a couple of plastic wedges in to hold the glass aside and with a flash light it looks like the linkage is in place. Can the door panel be removed with the door closed?

With our el Camino it was just a matter of a dried out and sticking mechanism. A good spray loosened ours up. This may or may not be the problem but is an easy first step to try by just spraying it down with WD40 or similar.

Ok, I'll give that a try.

Thanks again for the help

Calling upon a hazy memory but my el camino used to do that. As I recall it was a door latch return spring that had broken and it wasn't resetting itself. Lock/unlock the door a few times see if that gets it, dont try pushing the button when the door is locked.

OK, I tried spraying the mechanism with WD40, no luck. Also tried locking and unlocking several times, no luck, but I try that again.

Got the door open. Seems the inside stricker plate that the rod from the outside handle was pushed in and would not allow the door lock to completley unlock. Took a screwdriver pushed and held the plate back to the released position and at the same time pulled the lock button up. Door opened.

Thanks everyone for the help much appreciated and Merry Christmas.

I know this was an old post but had to let everyone know that I, too was able to reach in through the top of the door on my 72 with a screwdriver and push the striker for the exterior door handle toward the open position. When I did I was able to unlock the door and open it. WHEW, thanks for this forum. I was about redy to get a torch out.
