so, im going to get for the front, 15x7 cragars, and for the back, 15x8 cragars. im just not sure for the size of tires. my old rims had the same depth i think, and the tires on them were- front- p225 60 r15, back- p255 60 r15. now, i want the front to have a little more sidewall, and be a little wider, and the back, i want wider, and higher sidewall, but i just dont know the sizes they are. i want it to be wide enough to fill the wheel well in the back. thanks...

Check out Todd's and Andy's pics in "Andy's 69" posting.

Sounds like you are after the same look as Todd and myself. I just bought 235/60/15's for the front and will decide on 245/70 or 255/70's for the rear. I'll have to wait to get the body on the frame to check clearances. I don't want to do any mods to the wheel wells, but want the biggest tire I can get on the rear.
I've got the 15" Cragers.

I like running 275/60-15's on the rears and 235/60-15's on the fronts. You gotta nail the back spacing right for the rears to fit the wheel well.

Good Luck :D

i have a question, so, if i were to get 275 70r15 on the back, and 235 70r15 on the front, would that fit.... and what difference would it make if i got 7 inch wide rims for the front, and 8 inch for the back... i dont really understand what that would change, any help would be wonderful.

Jacob, I think the fronts would be ok. What Chris is suggesting is that the larger tires will hit the body or frame if backspacing is not factored into the decision.
If you are stock in the rear that sounds like a big tire for the wheel well, and also probably not recommended for a 7" rim.

Jusy my thoughts. You'll have to wait for someone who has experience with this. Have you checked the wheel and tire data base? Most with larger rears have mods of one kind or another.

275s are too wide for an 8-inch rim. It's not safe.

That does not mean guys haven't done it. It just means it's not safe.

Get a 9-inch rim, or run a 255.

Type in tire calculator in google search box and it will pull up several tools that will help assist you with any tire size you need. It will give you all the dimensions needed. Works well!

Scotch, why do you claim the 8" wheel to be unsafe? I have been running this size combo as have many others and this is the first time I have ever heard this. Recommended rim size is 8 - 10 inches.

I have run a 295/50-15 on the rear with an 8" rim and it fit the wheel well and had no safety issue. It would rub slightly in a hard turn.

You will need an 8" rear wheel with 4" back spacing and a standard 7" front wheel to pull this off.

Below is a link to a pic of my Chevelle with 275/60-15 MT drag radials on the back and skinny's up front. I couldnt get it to insert here. I also run a set of rally wheels with the combo I suggested in BF Goodrich TA rubber.

I bet there's been a million muscle cars running with 275/60-15 tires on 8" wheels.

so im pretty sure i want 275 60r15 on the back with 15x8 rims, and 235 60r15. now, compared to 25560r15 for the back, and 22560r15, which are my tires i have on right now, would the new tires give me any more sidewall, and if not, what would i have to do to get more sidewall?

now for the backspacing for the back rim, would it be better to get 3.75 or 4.55. those are the two choices for the rim size 15x8....

According to the specs on Tire Rack, the rim width range for the BF Goodrich Radial TA in a 275/60/15 is 7-9.5 inches with a recommended width of 8 inches.

Sounds like this is what you want. Even though your front tires are only going from 225-235/60the sidewall will be a touch taller, same with 255 to 275. (tire diam. may increase also) The wider the tire generally will give a slightly taller sidewall to a point even though it may still say "60 series" on it. Took me a lot of time browsing tire sites and comparing specs to notice this.

A 275/50/15 will be about the same sidewall as a 235/60 if that makes sense..
Sounds like 275/60 is waht you want. 4.5 BS would be perfect.
