: using drop spindles with lowering springs
VelleFromHell67 Oct 5th, 04, 5:28 PM Does anyone have experience with using minor-drop front coil springs WITH a 2" drop spindle? Any clearance issues? I ordered a front power disc brake conversion (from drums) with 2" drop spindles, and I need to go pick up some new springs (mine are shot). I want my car to handle well, but can't seem to find any stiffer aftermarket springs that don't drop the car. Help? :confused:

Furious Malibu Oct 6th, 04, 10:49 AM I used stock height replacements with 2" drop spindles.
The handling was very responsive and the car never "bottomed" when driving on the freeway at high speed. I think you'd like it if you went that route, unless you're looking for a really stiff suspension.
Coilsprings.com should be able to make you a 1" drop with a higher # rating - I believe stock rating is 285# for the fronts, small block.
Aaron Oct 6th, 04, 12:27 PM I have the 2 inch drop spindles on my 67. I installed the stock springs at first. The ride height of the fender was about 1 1/2 inches above the 235 60 15 tire. This was on 15x8 rally with 4 inch of backspacing. Ride was very nice as the previous post mentioned. graemlins/thumbsup.gif I really liked it, but wanted to have a lower stance and a rake look. :cool: I then installed the Hotchkins springs and now I have about 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch of ride height above the fender. Nice raked look and great handling. :D When I installed the Hotchkins springs I did not have to use a spring compressor. graemlins/hurray.gif graemlins/beers.gif Just slide them in and make sure they are seated properly. Stock springs are anotehr story. My car does not bottom out at all with the Hotchkins, but I do have some tire rub on outer tire with the inner fender when I hustle the car through a turn or something similiar. :mad: I think this would be corrected if I had more backspacing. Plan on getting some new wheels with 4.5 inches of backspacing. tongue.gif Coilsprings.com would be a good choice also.

sinned Oct 6th, 04, 5:27 PM Yeah, you can choose your rate but unless you are running adjusters as well the car isn't going to go very far. WC style springs are all 9.5" tall, A body springs range from 15-17" tall. 9.5" is a pretty big drop.
