: Johnny's sleigh ride trip.
Dave Dec 13th, 09, 2:56 AM So, I think John's coming down to collect his prize's.
I don't know if He's gonna make the loop, or if we get the stuff to my house, and he just comes here.
I know he needs to get wheels from Mike P, and something from Smeegal.
Mike P. needs to get his 12 bolt here.
And I need to get the fender and door from JustKyle.
I dunno, maybe we get a truck headed north, and I meet half way. Or do you wanna go round the horn, spreading christmas cheer?
66 Buick Special Dec 13th, 09, 4:03 AM I've got his TH400 here and can deliver to your place if needed.
I'm not sure I can fit everything in my Grand Cherokee in one trip...
I could probably fit the trans, 12 bolt, tires, and either the door or the fender.
I'm just not sure if both would fit piled on top of the other stuff... but I am willing to try.
66SSFan Dec 13th, 09, 8:01 PM I know John said he planned to come down through PA, stop by Brian's for the radiator/fans, and by my place to pick up the wheels and my 12 bolt, then on to get the trans from Greg. If he cannot get the door and fender, maybe I can hook up with Kyle on my way to pick up the rear after it's finished and bring it to you. I need to bring him a pair of headers anyway.
Brettd85 Dec 13th, 09, 8:44 PM Wow, hes gonna be busy! So when is he coming? I would be willing to meet up along one of his stops just to shoot the $hit for a minute and give him his skull bolts. :D I don't expect him to make a special stop for these.

Dave Dec 13th, 09, 8:45 PM John's schedule is kinda tight. We're looking into getting it all here, for him to make a quick trip on Monday the 21st.
I got to get to planning something, Maybe I can meet somewhere, or something like that.
We'll work it out.
gotago Dec 13th, 09, 9:37 PM I can't believe that between Dave, Greg, and CC Parker, none of you guys has a truck:sad:

My cable is just fine, working real good, and looks like it belongs there.:D
Too bad the front fuel bowl is cracked:mad: Gotta call Holley in the morning and see what they're gonna do about it.
Dave Dec 14th, 09, 12:56 AM Back to the topic for a moment.
JWA should be picking up the fender tomorrow, then it gets a ride to stinky town. When that happens, I wanna get ahold of Kyle, see if the door and fender can get in the same place.
Then, if we could get John's stuff all rounded up, and Mike's 12 bolt all in the same place, we could set up a meeting point?
I'll post back up once I know more about the fender and door.
Dave Dec 14th, 09, 8:41 PM JWA got the fender, awaiting transportation north. Kyle says no problemo on the door.
Mike, you or Brian got a truck? Maybe we could meet up next Saturday?
OutCast Dec 14th, 09, 8:56 PM This would sure be a huge help, guys. It looks like I'll be lucky to get one day off before Christmas, so I'll probably try to get down and back next Monday.
I'd sure like to do the milk run and see everybody, but I don't have the luxury of free time at work right now, so one day is about max for me.
Thanks for your team work.
Brettd85 Dec 14th, 09, 9:53 PM Hmm, Bellevue is in the center... My place is only 1/3rd mile off the freeway :D
Dave Dec 14th, 09, 9:54 PM If peolpe would meet me that far north, I'd be really happy.
Brettd85 Dec 14th, 09, 9:57 PM Well they could drop stuff off here if you cant make it down at the same time to meet them. Just an idea. My beer fridge is stocked! :beers:
mattiepschevelle Dec 14th, 09, 10:02 PM I still gotta get me parts up to you one of these days, probably be next month sometime I guess.

That could be another benefit. Could work out to more schedules that way.
I still gotta get me parts up to you one of these days, probably be next month sometime I guess.
Yeah, that would work.
66SSFan Dec 14th, 09, 10:08 PM I can borrow my F-I-L truck any time, Saturday is good for me and come up to Brett's or just drive to your house.
In fact, I could bring the parts from Brian's and the wheels and tires from here, pick up John's trans in Lynnwood and bring it all to your place if it will save John some travel time. I know we would all like to meet up and bs, but if if he only gets one day off, that would be a really long trip.
Dave Dec 14th, 09, 10:10 PM I can borrow my F-I-L truck any time, Saturday is good for me and come up to Brett's or just drive to your house.
Whatever You'd like.
But, I should add that Tory'sGrandmother on his mom's side passed this morning. I don't know what the plans are, but I may need to take him down next Saturday. IDK.
66SSFan Dec 14th, 09, 10:14 PM Sorry to hear that Dave, it's a tough thing to take during the Hollidays too. Maybe John will add some to this idea, but I could come up either Saturday or Sunday as long as Greg is available for the trans pick up. Even if I just brought it all to Brett's, it would save time.
OutCast Dec 15th, 09, 1:00 AM I have a dash and other stuff from that Chevy pickup I parted out. I don't remember who the stuff was for ??? Could someone remind me who needs this stuff, and I'll bring it down with me.
Thanks tons guys for helping out with the logistics of this. As I said, it would be great to get a visit in with everyone, but work is very demanding at the moment, and it wouldn't be a smart move to be gone at this time.

Eric, that stuff will be at My house as of Monday, I'll work it out to get it down to you soon after. I may be going that way at Christmas, so, we'll work it out.
The fender is in Puyallup. I'm going to try to get Kyle to pick it up.
Brettd85 Dec 15th, 09, 5:38 PM FYI I work with Erik so if you drop it off at my place, I can take it to him.
66SSFan Dec 15th, 09, 6:49 PM So, do we have a plan yet? Do you want to me try and gather everything this weekend and bring it to you Dave?
mattiepschevelle Dec 15th, 09, 7:00 PM I don't mean to add to the confusion haha, but I will be over on bainbridge Island in a couple weeks to get my 12 bolt, and I need to get it upto daves as well, if you guys arent in a huge hurry maybe we could load mine up as well? if not no biggy

Will do:thumbsup:
66 Buick Special Dec 15th, 09, 8:17 PM What's the easiest thing for you guys regarding the TH400?
I should be available to hand it off anytime this weekend.
If for some reason I'm not here I'll leave Trevor here to help load it.
Dave Dec 15th, 09, 8:22 PM UH, Damn, I forgot about the trans.
What all is there?
Door, fender, radiator, fans, 12 bolt, a set of rear wheels, transmission?
May as well stop by Doc's, and get the frame, make a roller out of it, I can just tow it all home.
66 Buick Special Dec 15th, 09, 8:38 PM Dave if there isn't room on the parts barge I'd be happy to shuttle it up to your place. If you want we could use the Jeep to put a couple of other things in to make room.
I have to check with Jill to make sure I'm not forgetting anything schedule-wise this weekend.
Either way I'll get the trans up there somehow.
66SSFan Dec 15th, 09, 9:01 PM Plenty of room for the trans too, it's a full size truck. Just need to know Sat, or Sun.
Dave Dec 15th, 09, 9:21 PM Plenty of room for the trans too, it's a full size truck. Just need to know Sat, or Sun.
Mike, if you can just come up here, I'll meet you when the 12 bolt is done. There is noway I can fit all that in my chopped chot chebby.:D
I don't care, Sat or Sunday work for me.
66SSFan Dec 15th, 09, 9:33 PM Saturday works better for me, I'll bring Brian with me to load and unload it all. :)
I'll call Greg when I get close, just need to figure out how and when to meet up with Kyle. Some where close to I-5 would be best.
66 Buick Special Dec 15th, 09, 9:36 PM Sounds good to me!
Dave Dec 17th, 09, 1:14 AM So, Kyle has the door and fender.
Mike, I'll Pm you his number. If you would give him a call, set up a meet.

I am thinking my shed will get relocated to Dave's house.
66SSFan Dec 17th, 09, 8:12 AM Will do Kyle, I call you friday evening to work it out.

I am thinking my shed will get relocated to Dave's house.
Just what I need, I'll sort through it. Maybe there's a couple buck's to be made.
kettbo Dec 18th, 09, 2:08 PM Mike,
Could I meet you at the Narrows Bridge or ???, hand you a flexplate and balancer bound for DOC's or someone who will be seeing him soon?
Dave Dec 19th, 09, 1:29 AM Mike, throw in your backing plates, blast is 40.00 bucks.
I got to take Tory for his drive test at 11:00, be right back after that.
66SSFan Dec 19th, 09, 1:55 AM I left the rear brakes all together and just unbolted them from the backing plates. I already cleaned them up when I rebuilt the brakes, there good to go
Brian's coming here in the early am, will meet George, then on to Kyle's house, stop by Ben's for a quick parts drop off, up to Greg's, and then on to the final stop at Dave's. I'll call everyone before showing up.
66 Buick Special Dec 19th, 09, 2:00 AM Hey Mike, just give me a shout when you hit Ben's house. What are you thinking... 10-11:00?
Doesn't matter to me, I've just got a couple of errands to run at some point during the day and I want to make sure I'm here.
66SSFan Dec 19th, 09, 9:47 AM I'll give you a call Greg.
FourEightyNine Dec 19th, 09, 10:22 AM Let the Trek BEGIN!:D
66 Buick Special Dec 19th, 09, 10:39 AM Drive safe! There's a lot of car parts at stake.:D
Dave Dec 19th, 09, 12:19 PM I really hope Mike is wearing a Santa cap, an Brian is wearing his elf cap.:D
justkyle Dec 19th, 09, 1:05 PM Mike and Brian just left.
You got two inner fenders, your fender, a passenger door, a bumper and door glass.
Traded Mike a console and horseshoe shifter for Brians old headers.
They had to wake me up. I was out celebrating last night and the brain is a little foggy this morning.
kettbo Dec 19th, 09, 1:14 PM I had met them at the Narrows Bridge around 0830. Brian looked AWESOME in his green Elf tights. The Sleigh was red too.
Dave Dec 19th, 09, 8:06 PM The delivery had been made.:hurray:
Thanks to Mike and Brian for doing the TCNW parts express.
RAMBO Dec 19th, 09, 8:20 PM Thanks mike for dropping off some presents at my place too, Much appreciated!

66SSFan Dec 20th, 09, 12:19 AM Just getting home, we took our time on the way back and stopped at a boat racing friends place, had some dinner and cruised home. It was a good trip, thanks every one for helping out. Dave's shop is looking great, very neat and clean! I'm excited to get this 12 bolt done and back in the car, it's going to melt tires with ease:thumbsup:
FourEightyNine Dec 20th, 09, 12:59 AM Good seeing everyone today.

bcice Dec 21st, 09, 7:37 PM Just curious John, did Canadian Customs give you any problem when you came back through the border with stuff you did not go down with??
OutCast Dec 21st, 09, 8:04 PM When I went down south in September, I took my transmission, and the 12 bolt housing you gave me. I stopped at our local customs office in town the day before I crossed the border, and got an import/export form to fill out. I put down dimensions, descriptions, and any serial numbers I could find on the two items.
Before crossing the US customs border, I stopped at the Canadian side and went inside and had them sign, date, and stamp my form. Coming back through today, with my freshly rebuilt pieces, I told the Canadian customs officer the value of the components, with receipts from Summit to support this, and also told him the value of the wheels, tires, radiator and fans I had, but had no receipts for.
I then went inside the office, showed the guard my import/export document, told him what I had and that all the pieces I bought were of US manufacture, paid my GST and PST, and that was it. Not a penny of duty. Gotta love Free Trade. If I had cheaped out and bought Chinese parts, the duty would have been so high, that overall the stuff would've cost more than the good US made stuff.
I am always straight up with the border guys and pay whatever meager duty or tax they ask. I'd hate to mess around and be sneaky, get caught, and never be allowed back in again. That would really put a damper on my Bremerton fun.
However, on the trip down from Canada, I had a new experience. When approaching the US guard, he asked me the usual questions, then told me to turn off my truck and hand him my keys. He put the keys in his kiosk, locked the door and went to the back of my truck with a billy club thing. He opened the tailgate, looked around, closed it, and then started banging on my spare tire under my truck.
He came back, handed me my keys, and said to have a nice trip.
Maybe I fit the profile for a drug trafficker or gun smuggler.
Always feels good to be home. ;)
66 Buick Special Dec 21st, 09, 8:40 PM Glad to hear that it was just your spare tire that got thumped.:D
Now, get to wrenching!

Thanks John thats good info. I never thought of listing the items with customs on the way down. I agree with being straight up with those guys. If they take a notion to, they can really riun your day. Now you can have some fun. I love having new shiney clean things to bolt on!
gotago Dec 21st, 09, 9:37 PM Man, that scattershield is HEAVY!!!
When you finally do stuff the BB between the fenders, I highly recommend you bolt the whole thing together, trans to motor and stuff it in. Check your scattershield fitment against the hedders. I got my motor and trans almost all the way in and had to pull it again to trim the scattershield as it hit the driver's side hedder. Might save you a headache.
cobaltchev67 Dec 21st, 09, 10:01 PM Contrary to Mark, it's easier for me to do the engine by itself...since the oil pan sticks out so far, plus I like having the O/D already on the trans and be able to adjust the clutch fork without the trans already hooked up. I have no comment about BBC headers as I've not dealt with them, but my SBC headers are bad enough....I had to put them in the same time the engine goes in or it doesn't happen at all with the Lakewood bellhousing on there.
Brettd85 Dec 21st, 09, 11:02 PM My mcleod scattershield needed clearancing from the hooker super comps also. I drop the engine in with the scattershield on, headers laying on the side. Then put the trans in under the car(huge pita). So if you can,, do as Mark said. I dont have a load leveler or whatever you call it.
Dave Dec 21st, 09, 11:26 PM Thank's to all for the parts express, that was cool. Just paypal 50.00 buck's to a guy in Oregon, and 4 days later, the fender shows up at my house.
You all shoulda seen John, he did the jizz dance when he saw all the goodie's.
Funniest looking thing, that or he was sore from the border. I'm pretty sure that wasn't the spare that got bumped by the "billie club" type thing.;)

Good to know, definitely will do a bench trial fit w/ headers. & headers will be settin in place on the frame as the engine is dropped in.
The HD3spd is an IRON case, so it on its own is a HEAAAVY MFer... I'm positive it will be much easier to do them both together.
I need to go find the lakewood instructions and figure out what all needs to be done with the two big engine shield plates that come with the bell.
BTW.. Even though its up at daves, another thanks to John for donating his old Oil Pan!
