Have 4 desktops and 1 laptop.
2 desktops running XP Pro, 1 desktop with XP Home and the laptop with Vista Home.
Computer #1 is my desktop with XP Pro (WINXP-PRO)
Computer #2 is wife's desktop with XP Home (LYNDA)
Computer #3 is spare desktop with XP Pro (PADDY)
Computer #4 is laptop with Vista Home (LAPTOP)
All 4 are networked under WORKGROUP
I had to install a new drive in my main PC (#1). I use the laptop (#3)occasionally and I have Synctoy set up on the laptop to transfer files from my main desktop (#1) to the laptop. I'd map the drives needed on the laptop from the main PC and use Synctoy to copy those files I needed.
It seems now that even though my main PC shows up in the WORKGROUP on the laptop I can't map drives from the main PC to the laptop. The PC shows up and the shared folders show up on the laptop when I browse to select a shared network folder but when I try to map a shared folder I get an error saying "Not enough server storage is available to process this command".
I looked up the message and found references to creating/increasing a registry entry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Services/lanmanserver/parameters IRPStackSize to 14 or 20. On my main PC (that I cannot connect to from the laptop), the IRPStackSize entry was not in the above key so I added it and rebooted the PC. Still could not connect from the laptop. I checked the registry in the laptop (Vista Home) and it does have the key with a value of 0x0000000e (14), the same as I set my main PC to.
I tried mapping a drive on the laptop to my wife's computer (XP Home) as well as the spare PC and both worked fine. I checked her registry and she has no such key either just as mine originally did not have this key yet the laptop was able to connect and map a drive. The spare PC that the laptop can map a drive to does not have the registry entry either.
So, the laptop can map drives to my wife's PC and the spare PC (neither have IRPStackSize entries) by not my PC although it can see my shared folders. My PC can also map shared folders on my wife's PC and the spare but not the laptop. Both my wife's PC and the spare can map to shared folders on my PC and each other, but neither can see shared folders on the laptop.
Nothing on any of the other 3 computers has changed, only mine. Here's a diagram of my home network. Green arrows can map drives to shared folders, red arrows cannot.
Thoughts?
