This is what I found ... Im sure the experts will chime in :)

03A - This is the date code for when the vehicle was built. The day of the year
67 = year
13817 - Chevrolet; Concours,SS 396; 2 door sport coupe
ATL - Atlanta
123** - Unit number for your car, this is how the factory tracked it through production.
E-E - Dark Blue (Deepwater Blue)
731-B - Bucket Seat, Medium Bright Blue Vinyl
3855961....396.......65-66...2 or 4 bolt
3855961....427.......66......2-bolt
3872702....65-66...oval..CLOSED..396, 427, 98cc chamber
T0908TGR- Tonawanda...all 396s were built here; month manufactured Sep; day 08; TGR is the suffix but I couldn't find TGR on my list

Good info here: http://www.chevelles.com/years/67/facts.htm#cowltags

Thanks! Can't find the engine suffix either., and it is a G not a C. Accessory codes are giving me a tough time too.

If I recall ... 3 letter suffix codes where 1970+, but that wouldn't make sense considering the date of the motor. Def not an expert in this area (or any area for that matter) :)

Most likely it is not TGR but IGR from a 1966 Imapla 325 HP powerglide with Rochester carb.

Is the bottom of the I, off of the engine pad? Is the stamp angled so the bottom of the I is not imprinted? There is no T code for this block.

For that block casting number ,there should be just 2 letter code not 3 as was posted earlier.
3 letter code's didn't start until the 70 production run and that block ceased production in '66.
You'll also discover that the 65 & 66 block has the grooved rear cam bearing and grooved rear cam journal- no other's do.

Bottom of T stops before ending. Doesn't look like the block is original since the tranny and 456 rear isn't but the heads match the car. Wire brushed the heck out of it trying to read the build date on the block. Thanks guys! The interior is black now and the cowl hood has been cut for the 2 4-barrels holleys on it but he has the original cowl inserts lying in the front seat. Doors open and close perfectly and no dents in the car, very straight. He bought it in '69 and everybody knows the car. Just can't see paying 12K for it, it's green now but can see the original dark blue here and there on it. Again, thanks for your time!

UM ,I wasn't counting the R(Rochester) or H(Holley) for the 66's but guess I should.

Can you post a picture of the stamping? Or send to me and I will post it. What is casting date? Should be on the passenger side of block if it is that casting number. Also, are you positive on the casting number? Just trying to help.

Like others, I am thinking it is IGR. I think that was used for the Impala from 65 to 68. I believe that casting number block was only used for 66 model year. Check casting date when you have time.

Yes, I think it's IGR too. Can't be anything else. He's saying it's the original engine but it's not, so that's why we're crawling back under it.

Yeah Byron ,the IG was used from 65-68 but the carb code R(Rochester) or H(Holley) was 1 year only on the end of the code -'66.

Mike, I am pretty sure I have seen the R(Rochester) or H(Holley) used on some early 67s too. But don't quote me on that. I don't have any examples.

Wasn't sure if Impala used that in 66 only or not. Not much information on engine codes on the Impala site.

And it's Bryon. ::thumbsup: Forget the Y and pronounce similar to Brian.

Sorry for the mispell.
I see the additional H & R only listed in 66 as GM/Chevy didn't mix the carbs on the 325hp engine in 67.
