I've read many posts on here stating that the trim on the four little circles is supposed to be black and not silver as what is found on the reproduction dash bezel's. Now, I was on You tube and searched for 'chevelle commercials' and there's one that is about a minute long for a 70 Chevelle SS 396 in black and white. Many on here have probably seen it. Anyway, the camera shows for a brief moment the front of the dash, and it looked to me as if those four smaller circle's trim was either painted silver or was chrome and not painted black. Go check it out and let us all know what you think.

I guess I wanted to stir the pot alittle.:D

Hi Chuck,

I didn't check out the commercial but I'm pretty sure that I know which one that you mean.

Automobile manufacturer's out of necessity, need extended lead time to prepare advertising and promotional materials for the next model year. Long before the first car rolls off the production line. In order to do this, their ad agencies use pre-production styling models. It was not uncommon for minor styling changes to be made not only prior to the start of production, but even early into the production year. Prime example: The chrome bar on '70 fender extentions that ran parallel to the bumper, under the headlights. It was dropped sometime around February, or thereabouts. Many of the sales brochures are rife with both photographic and copy errors. Another example: The '70 El Camino sales brochure has somewhere around seven errors including showing a Monte Carlo woodgrain dash in an SS interior shot. The best one is the same shot showing no vent wing on the driver's door. It wasn't long ago that someone posted archive photos here of a Chevelle that had SS badging and wheels on one side and 307 badges and full wheel discs on the other side. Obviously, it was done for photography purposed to show different models.

Don't be fooled by what never was....including those little round rings.

That's the quickest and easiest way (for me at least) to pick out repro-full cars on ebay. "All original" with 4 small silver circles? Probably not.

That will only show that they either have a repro dash, or they over restored their original.:D
