Guys,
I am doing a tall spindle upgrade. I have a spindle off a 93 Caprice and teh tie rod off an earlier Chevy. They both fit about the same, which doesn't look anything close to what the original fit like! There seems to be a lot of space where the old one didn't have any. Is this normal?

you need to use the Outer tie rod ends from a ‘84 Buick Regal. they are $12 each. they will have the correct taper for the tall spindle, the will be the identical length and even match with the correct 71-72 inner tie rod and coupling sleeve. there are 2 different tapers you have the wrong tie rod thats all. ;)

Usually (& I mean usually), '64-'70 A-bodies need a tie rod from a '78-'88 G-body which has 5/8" end on it and the correct taper for the tie rod ball joint.
'71-'72 will usually require a tie rod end from a '73-'77 Chevelle/Monte Carlo and clones. They have an 11/16" end and the correct taper for the tie rod ball joint.
But as usual, these cars are old and an owner may have swapped to the bigger or smaller tie rods & sleeves along its life so check before you purchase tie rods.

Steve, look at the tie rod ends I have in your garage waiting to go on my car - they should be from an 84 "G" body like a Regal or Malibu. That way you can see if they fit, which I've been assured that they will. We can check tonight when I stop by before I install them on my 65.

The "G-body" tie-rod ends work great on my tall spindle conversion. I tried the '90 Caprice ends (same as the spindles), but they just didn't cut it.
