I think these threads are great but It's funny to me when one comes up sometimes with pictures and we all go around saying either how great the car is or how it's too far gone to repair, etc. The thing that bothers me is you either never hear another thing about the car and end up wonder how it turns out, or someone is flipping and it goes on sale on ebay and we end up helping a flipper. I know there is no way to stop this from happening but sometimes I wonder if it’s worth it. I get a kick out of people now who say they’re not going to sell; like we haven't heard that one before. Does anyone know what happened to the '67 SS or the blue raced only 42 miles cars? I guess I was wondering how the rest of you feel about the subject; does it bother you or do you think it’s funny?

You pretty much have to take anything on the WWW with a grain of salt.
Anyone can post ANYTHING

Not all of the cars posted in the WIW section end up getting flipped.

A few weeks ago someone posted a numbers matching 69 SS 4-speed that was on Racingjunk.com and was only about 45 minutes from my home.

I now own my dream Chevelle- a 69 SS 396, 350 horse 4-speed in burnished brown with a parchment bucket seat interior. The kicker is that I had never previously looked on Racingjunk for cars. You can bet I do now .:D:yes:

That's true too; not all cars get flipped and I do think some people here are sincere in wondering if they found something rare and nice. but sometimes I wonder....

I totally agree with you. This reminds me of the thread posted a month or two ago that was about the silver 70 SS sitting out behind a neighbors garage. That thread went south REALLY fast when the poster announced he was going to flip the car if and when he bought it. I have yet to hear about what happened to that car.

I've been wondering about that car too.

WIW is now a catch forum for just about anything.
The threads most often go in some bizarre direction that has nothing to do with the original question. Most of the time someone sees a car and thinks it would be cool talking about it. Many times someone has a car thay want to sell so they throw it in WIW to generate some interest and then let the PMs come in. I think its a great forum and may be the one I visit most. As mentioned you just have to read between the lines and use it as a distraction while your at work from your real job.

I agree but I also think it keeps you in touch with what the market is doing and how people feel about the market. You definitely have to read between the lines. Most of the time a WIW is never mentioned. It doesnt bother me. I still enjoy it.

The 42 mile blue car (convertible) was sold according to an article I read last night .The new owner said he was going to remove the decals and drive it . I cant remember which magazine it was in but can post it later . I know I would drive it but I would probably leave the decals as they are.

i find this section very entertaining. i love the amount of info you can get from it. i love some of the niave people (not insulting, i'm niave to a lot of chevelle info) that come on here telling us about the 307 ss car, or other copo version they have, had or seen.

i especially love it when a sellar comes on here to defend bizarre statements and info he has spewed. some come clean, others just run when the torches come out. and others have stayed on to learn what we're all trying to learn, how not to get ripped off.

opinions are strong, and we don't always agree, but usually by the end of a thread, we have all gleened the truth of the matter.

i think this section is one of the better additions in the last few years... i would love some updates of past threads, interesting to see what came of some of these cars...

I like this section of Team Chevelle the best as there is nothing more exciting than watching money and emotions stirred together in the same blender. I always wondered what happened to the LS6 frame-off El Camino this guy's neighbor had for sale. He vanished from the thread:

thing with asking a wiw question, its all about location. I had a JA coded shortblock, granted it wasnt original, it had forged pistons, fresh 10-10 cast crank, etc. I think I finally sold it for $300 locally. I went and bought a 70 M21 with pedals, reverse lock out, comp +_ shifter for a console, 444 bell housing. I paid $600 for the whole mess, I mainly bought it because I needed to buy a shifter for my car anyway, and figured I could recoup most of my money selling off the other stuff local. I posted the parts on cl and got 1 guy semi interested in the backdrive and 1 guy interested in the pedal/linkage setup and I thought I had it posted fairly reasonable. 125 (pedal setup) 100 backdrive, 500 for the M 21 (a bit high, but I can keep it).
Like I said, its all about location. jim

I don't believe this to be any secret, Mr. Jeff Helms (jeffschevelle) bought it. I think this puts him at 22 chevelles and 1 camaro. :beers: I guess I'd hate to be that camaro sitting around all those chevelles.

Cool; thank you for the update. So he's going to restore it back to original then I assume?

IMO. It does kind of make you feel taken advantage of when someone comes here asking about a car they are intrested in. Only to flip it soon after.

Why would you think that?I thought that is what this forum is all about,to ask the experts what they think something is worth ,either to buy or sell.

I think it goes back to some of the WIW cars that people were asking about and TC gave alot of good infomation to a flipper who used the info to get top dollar on a car. We thought he was going to restore it and that's how he started his thread. At the end he told us he got extra money for it because of the info TC gave him and that he never intended to ever restore it. It was kind of a letdown at the time and it started a whole discussion on is flipping good or bad for this hobby that became quite heated becasue some people supported him and others felt they were used at the time. It was a real nice red 69 SS that was missing it's engine but otherwise it was mint.

I guess if he lied about it I can see that pissing some people off but even if someone says they are looking to flip something they still get info from here.So why lie about it? Maybe some people just like to deceive others. I have`nt been coming here for very long but I thought that this forum was for getting an idea on how much something was worth to either buy or sell.
