: Ground Up's brake kit - any comments?

I have finally got permission from my wife to go ahead and buy a front disc brake conversion kit for my -69. I have looked around and it seems like Ground Up's kit is a pretty good deal, and also uses OEM components. Before I order it, I would appreciate comments from those of you who have used this kit. This is the kit I'm talking about. (http://www.ss396.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=396&Product_Code=FM-1790X)

If everything is OEM, I'm not worried about the fit and function, but my major concern is if it's complete. Seems like I only have to get the hard lines separately, but I'm not sure. It would really suck if I had to spend more money on buying missing parts, if I can get a somewhat more expensive but complete kit somewhere else. I hate to get held up because I don't have everything I need, so I would like to buy a kit that's as complete as possible.

Any comments will be greatly appreciated.

I am also considering purchasing this kit from Ground Up. According to them all parts are American made and they ship it with Timken Bearings unassembled. The booster, master cylinder, backing plates, and caliper brackets all look pretty well constructed, but if anyone has installed this set, I'd like to know.

Plus, they're offering free shipping at the Englishtown, NJ show.

Anyone have any comments?

Thanks.

Olle,
The only thing I would find out, and this might not matter to you, but I think that some of the "oem" kits are not really OEM for the year listed. For instance, the kit you are looking at might use calipers from a 70's car, rotors from something else, etc. They are all "OEM" parts, as compared to aftermarket like Wilwood or Lamb, but they might not be exactly like the ones that would have come on a 69. Thats why I have been trying to track down all the correct original parts to do convert my 71.

Bill,

Seems like Ed dug up a post from last year. Since then, I have purchased and installed a kit from an eBay seller ("Whitemanford"). You're right about the somewhat misused term "OEM", it doesn't necessarily mean that the parts look like the original, most of the times it only means that it fits and works like an original part. But I don't care too much about 100% originality, and the parts I got look good and work well, so I'm happy with my installation.

BTW, the only parts that will be visible after installation are the booster and the combination valve. The parts in my kit look much better that what I have seen in other kits. Especially the boosters can be really hideous but I got a nice cad plated Delco style booster with my kit.
