: New Bilstein Shocks
BSONGER Dec 10th, 09, 10:15 AM I just bought a new set of Bilstein shocks for the front of my 66 SS and i have a question. On the top side where the rubber bushings are, there is some steel washers and rubber bushings. Now, my question is.....the shocks came with 2 rubber bushings, 1 nut, and 2 thick steel washers and 1 thin steel washer, where does the thin washer go? When i say washer, i mean the ones that are shaped to fit the rubber. I`ve just never had a thin washer before and wanted to know where to put it. Thanks for any input. Have a great day. Bill :(
BSONGER Dec 10th, 09, 2:01 PM No one, come on now, nobody ever had this situation.
PCB67SS Dec 10th, 09, 2:08 PM Bill I installed mine with thick washer first then bushing then thin washer, then thru frame with bushing then thick top washer then nut. I want to say I went to their website or called them for clarification.....Good Luck
Beaux Dec 10th, 09, 5:00 PM Never seen this extra washer. I have bilsteins on my truck and a set for the chevelle and same deal on both - shock / washer / rubber bushing / frame / rubber bushing / washer then lock nut. I dont know why you would need another one in there anywhere.
BSONGER Dec 11th, 09, 7:14 AM Thanks for the reply. I`ve never saw the extra washer either. It looks the same as the regular washers, but is only about .030 thick. I know it would work fine without the thing in there, but i am just puzzled about where it goes. I bought it from SC&C, maybe i`ll call Mark and ask him about it. Thanks again. Bill
PCB67SS Dec 11th, 09, 7:47 AM Your welcome Bill....I just spent about 15 minutes on their site and could not find it....I had never seen the extra washer either so I believe I called them and that was their instructions. If you speak to Mark please post back with his take on the placement of the extra washers.....Good Luck
Importtech Dec 11th, 09, 8:31 AM I know where it goes... washer, bushing, thin washer (on botton side of frame) bushing, washer, nut. If you will notice the thin washer has a slight protrusion which I believe is suppose to center the shock stem inside the frame. At least this the way my bilsteins setup on my dirt car. Would likely work without it anyway...
BSONGER Dec 11th, 09, 11:19 AM Okay, i just got off the phone with Bilstein and here`s the scoop. You guys were right on with the install you mentioned. 1. thick washer 2. rubber bushing 3. thin washer with shoulder pointing up to go through the bottom side of frame 4. rubber bushing (top of frame) 5. shiney thick washer 6. lock nut. Thanks for all your help. I knew i could count on you guys. Have a great day and Merry Christmas!!!! Bill

jonmc56 Apr 9th, 12, 11:19 PM Glad I found this, had the exact same question. Wonder how difficult it would be for them to put these instructions in the box? Thanks guys for posting this.
