I'm setting up the rear disc brakes on my 65 chevelle. When adjusting or shimming the caliper bracket, do you want the outer and inner pad to be as centered on the rotor as possible? Do you want equal spacing? Or is it better to shim it so the outer pad is a bit closer to the rotor than the inner pad? Also, it looks like my caliper does not end up square to the rotor. The rotor is all the way up against the axle flange. Anyone run into this? and how did you correct?
Thanks.

What rear backing plate or bracket set up did you use? With an F-Body/LS1 backing plate & abutment I shimmed out the width of a stock drum backing plate, maybe a 16th or so. That put my pads centered on the rotor.

I'm using a right stuff detailing kit. It's one bracket that bolts to the rear end housing flange and there's several different thickness shims that come with. Directions aren't clear, they just say if outer pad hits rotor, less shim, if inner pad hits rotor, more shim. But there's a good size range that you can be in and neither hits the rotor...so where do you want to be within that range?

With fixed calipers you need to be pretty well centered--with a floating caliper, not so critical since it floats around.
