12 vs 10 bolt bearing caps

I know that the caps are matched to each housing as they are bolted down and cut for size. My question is; Do 10 bolt housings use the same caps as 12 bolt housings?

No, different diameter carrier bearing.

The 12 bolt uses a larger bearing than the 10 bolt, so the bore size is different. The bolt center to center location is also different. If you are looking for donor caps for a 12 bolt you can use 12 bolt truck caps. They are the same and will work if you fit them right.

I also use 12 bolt truck caps when needed. But I have a box of them overflowing to choose from. Ussually will test fit 20 or so to get one close enough to fit. And then fit it the rest of the way.
For the home guy. I recomend using Mark Williams Billet steel caps. You will take the rear to the machine shop that does engine work. They will cut the cap on the same machine used to cut main caps. Use small cuts till the fit is correct. Instructions included. Tom
