: Hugger Orange or Tuxedo Black for my 70
Minge Dec 8th, 09, 7:43 PM I know it is my car and my money and I know the first thing everyone is going to say is paint it the original color...Well it is what I call a belly button car (everyone has them and no offense to the owners of the code 75 red 70 chevelle's but they are everywhere.
I had my heart set on hugger orange for my car but I have really been drawn towards the classic muscle car look of Tuxedo black cars with white stripes.
I have been told by several that if I plan to sell the car in the near future and my guess is within 5 years I will that black is by far the smart choice for resale.
My body is very straight and will be have good prep so I think black will stand up well. I have a good painter in mind too so I should be fine in that area.
I had an every day driver car that was black and it was a giant pain in the ass to keep looking good..The Chevelle will ba a sunny and 70 car once a week and put the cover back on it so I am less concerned about keeping a black car looking good.
Please give me some feedback...I need to make a choice in the next week or so..
grandsport Dec 8th, 09, 7:52 PM I had a new black '94 Vette. That car ruined my summer, swore off black cars. Fast foward to Oct 6 2007,thats when I found my black 70. Don't regret it at all.Of course the paint is a little better than factory GM'94 finish.;)
1972convss454 Dec 8th, 09, 8:47 PM I've always heard "once you go black, you'll never go back".
I second orange...very rare & beautiful color for Chevelles:thumbsup:
TCSS1970 Dec 8th, 09, 9:56 PM I guess if you want orange bad enough then paint it orange but I wouldn't be afraid that if you do you would limit your potential buyers by 65 to 70 percent. I'm a big UT Vol fan which is home of the big orange but I would not own a orange chevelle unless it came from the factory orange. I bought astro blue because that's what I wanted but I still look at black cars with envy. Black on black on black with white stripes is the baddest looking chevelle. And that is my opinion.
Highway Star Dec 8th, 09, 10:00 PM Orange.
704EVER Dec 8th, 09, 10:01 PM BLACK, BLACK, BLACK, why are you asking this question?????????????? Car cover, duster and a full cooler!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SS4Real Dec 8th, 09, 10:25 PM If you are really going to sell the car within 5 years and want maximum resale value:
1. If the car was originally code 75 Cranberry Red, then repaint it that color
2. If not, then paint it black and make sure your painter is really good
3. Don't paint it orange if you plan to resell and that was not the original color
Jerry Briggs Dec 8th, 09, 10:25 PM Black is where its at
chuckd71 Dec 8th, 09, 11:24 PM Orange with white stripes, who cares what color it was originally. And besides, the last thing we need is another red one (no offense).
Johnny Dec 8th, 09, 11:32 PM The one and only correct answer is BLACK. Period!!:D

Same thing can be said about black cars too.:D

SPARK69 Dec 9th, 09, 7:08 AM I love orange but really there is nothing sweeter than a slick black 70

Well,except a slick Black 69!
Paint it Black!
CS3 Auto Dec 9th, 09, 8:28 AM Both would look great.
danvil1 Dec 9th, 09, 10:20 AM BLACK all the way.
my buddy painted his orange,it was great at first but now he hates that he did it.
honestly if your car is numbers matching stick with the original color as when you resell the car it will sell quiker if the paint is correct to the car.
if it is not a numbers matching car, paint it Black.
maybe a photo of my car might clear the mind.

Minge Dec 9th, 09, 1:55 PM This is a bit closer than I expected..That is what I love about this forum no one is shy with throwing out an opinion.
This is a hard call...

..
I say they are wrong. I bet that original has a better resale value... Unless this is a hot rod type car i.e. drag race / pro street or similar.
tunes Dec 9th, 09, 2:45 PM A Black car has more appeal than an Orange car IMO. (no offense to Orange car fans) If those are the only two options I would paint it Black.
Minge Dec 9th, 09, 2:47 PM This car is going to be a 90% correct car true to stock as a non-numbers matching car can be. Freshly built period correct LS-6 and as much attention to detail as my wallet will allow. Cranberry red is out...that is what it was and that is what it is suppose to be but I am not interested in that color..
It will be black or orange...
Johnny Dec 10th, 09, 10:24 AM Orange is for Charlie Brown and the Great Pumpkin. Im just kidding :D
Merry Christmas Guys
FLASHED Dec 10th, 09, 12:57 PM Orange
BADCHVL Dec 10th, 09, 1:59 PM Orange!
Indyspecracer Dec 10th, 09, 2:07 PM I chose Orange after falling in love with a car at CB10. That being said, If I would have had 100% confidence in my body (first timer) work, I would have given black seriousl consideration. It is hard to beat a deep black paint job.
I don't think you can go wrong either way. If you choose Hugger Orange I would highly recommend choosing your basecoat by looking at other cars in person. I bought samples from 3 different paint brands and the color was different for each.

So who's base coat is this and what paint code is it?
Indyspecracer Dec 11th, 09, 1:21 PM The base coat is ProSpray. Not a common brand, but high quality with great coverage. The guys at SPI think a lot of it. It covered better than the DuPont Chromabase sample that I test shot. It was a challenge to get the right formula with this line, it was found in their European system as Hugger Orange. Don't ask me why, buy they had it coded as code 65. I did a few test shoots with formula variants and ended up with the code 65, but removed all of the burgandy that the formula calls for.
Dan Orgill Dec 11th, 09, 1:29 PM I would go orange. I would hate to have to try and maintain a black car, even for a show only vehicle. I couldn't imagine the extra work if it were a driver, even if only an occasional one.
