I'm working on a buddy's '69 Firebird, putting on 4 wheel power discs in place of the manual 4 wheel drums. The fronts are done, using my old '72 Chevelle spindles with his stock steering arms. The rears are on, after some work shimming the bearings out to compensate for the thicker backing plate. I have a question now about the calipers. They're on, but I'm looking at how to hook up the parking brake. Am I understanding correctly that the parking brake cables have to pull to release the brakes? This would mean you'd always have the parking brake to the floor to drive the car, and up to set the brakes. Kinda odd, if so. Either that, or those rebuilt calipers are rebuilt wrong, because the actuator arm on the caliper moves toward the cable mount to release pressure on the pads. The large spring on the caliper pushes the arm back, which clamps the pads tight to the disc.
Obviously, this is the first time I've dealt with these TA discs. Anyone have any input? The calipers came from Checkers, A1/Cardone brand rebuilt.
